I think this is another very solid release from DT, and this time they decided to mix up all of the different styles instead of concentrating on just one sound (like they did on ToT). Upon the first listens, I really didn't enjoy much the first 3 tracks, but the rest I always thought were killer. Upon repeated listens, I'm really enjoying the whole thing. My favorites are I Walk Beside You, Panic Attack, Never Enough and Octavarium. This album is another winner for DT. Once again, they manage to release an album that sounds different, not rehashed. The highlight moments for tha album definitely have to be the falsetto part in Panic Attack, the chorus of I Walk Beside You, the first keys lead in Octavarium (when they pick up the pace), and the James screaming part near the end of Octavarium. Awesome. Alexis P.S. Definitely check out the album The Fullness of Time by Redemption, with Ray Alder on vocals, which is a killer prog metal album. IMO, it sometimes sounds like a mix between Symphony X and Fates Warning. Also check out the new Frameshift album with Sebastian Bach on vocals. I think the one with James is a little better, perhaps more inspired, but this one is great as well. You can't go wrong with Henning Pauly. ____________________________________________________ Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Jul 2005 15:01:33 -0400 From: Andrew Coutermarsh To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: Octavarium Message-ID: --------------090105010305070902070502 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed > the falsetto part in Panic Attack If you like that, be sure to check out Muse's "Absolution" album. ;) *Andrew Coutermarsh* http://www.acvox.com/ /*andrew* at *acvox* dot *com*/ Alexis Ramos wrote: >OK, here's my short review of Octavarium. Just FYI, there's no second stage at the San Diego show (nor will there be at 3 other shows, one of which being Boston), so we're being screwed out of seeing any of the second stage bands...fortunately I got to see and meet Michael Romeo last night in Irvine! :-D Scott > Date: Sun, 24 Jul 2005 13:22:41 -0700 > From: Brian > To: ytsejam@torchsong.com > Subject: Re: Gigantour > Message-ID: > > I'm goin Thursday, because its on a Thursday, starting at 3:30, I will > likely miss the first couple bands.
