YTSEJAM Digest 7181 Today's Topics: 1) Octavarium by Allroundniceguy 2) Gigantour by "cheryl" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 23 Jul 2005 10:52:16 -0700 From: Allroundniceguy To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Octavarium Message-ID: Actually there was a small flurry of posts about it within the first 2 weeks it was released. I could paraphrase my original posts, but suffice to say, that it's a B- rating from me. I'll admit a few of the tracks grew on my with repeated listenings, namely "These Walls", "Root of All Evil" and "I Walk Beside You" but overall, the rest of the CD left me, underwelmed. almost 80 minutes of DT is overkill for me, and this CD, well... song 2 is something I would've expected on FII (which has some incredible tracks, and some trite tracks as well). I'm feeling DT is almost slowly going through the motions... the last track, all 24 minutes of it, shows promise in spots, and I love the new "ambience" that some parts, particularly the introduction, showcase, but, still, it's really nothing groundbreaking or inspiring. Although the 3 tracks I mentioned above are particularly strong. And, that said, a new DT release is one of the only bands I'll pick up on release date. I'm not sure how they're doing it in other cities, but since the Vegas show was indoors at an arena, they had the 2 stages set up at either end, with the floor being general admission. I missed the first couple bands (not that I gave a shit) but got there in time to see most of Nevermore. Literally within 2 minutes after they were done, Symphony X was starting on the other stage. Then back and forth again with Fear Factory and Life of Agony (who sucked IMO), and back to the main stage for both Dream Theater and Megadeth. By the time DT hit the stage the floor was bedlam and I was squashed up against the railing. They sounded GREAT from where I was (considering it was a college basketball arena, I figured the sound might would be shitty). Megadeth was killer, and you'd never believe that just a few years ago Mustaine couldn't even move his fucki! ng arm. I'm sure someone will post set-lists, but not me. Too lazy, bruised, sore and exhausted...oh, and happy! LOL So in other words, DON'T MISS THIS TOUR!!! ;-) cheryl ---YTSEJAM FILTER: Rest of message skipped because of attachment ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 7181 ************************** === Contributions to ytsejam: ytsejam@torchsong.com === === Send requests to: ytsejam-request@torchsong.com === === More information at: http://www.dreamt.org/local/ytsejam.php === === Brought by the ghost of ytsejam@arastar.coms past === === Reach the owner of this list at: ytsejam-owner@torchsong.com ===
