The balcony is apparently about equivalent of rows S/T in the stalls - I was front row there a couple of years ago I think the second leg of the SFAM tour and it was pretty good - just fancied a change of elevation this time! Info for Niall - I think the capacity is 3,500 + and the last time they played there it was pretty much sold out, although this time because they are doing two nights in a row it'll be interesting to see if they manage the double! The long and the short - I would get tickets now if I were you mate! And as Antony says - I'd be surprised if they play any more dates in London on this album! They've tended to play one date early on and then a second a few months later near the end of the tour - although I think on 6DoIT they did two consecutive nights at the Astoria (which was sold out for both). but they've never played more than two dates for one album - and I've been to every gig in London since '98 (someone might like to correct me on this if I'm wrong!) I'm not familiar with "How Many More Times" but I'll have to check it out, just to hear Plant scream. ;-) Steve ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jun 2005 15:40:18 EDT From: email_address_removed To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: Worst album ever Message-ID: -------------------------------1118864418 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" i thought the worst record ever (besides anything obvious like rap, Hanson, Britiny) is Brian Eno's Taking Tiger Mountain. I guess I will try for the second night on the theory that it will be less likely to be sold out so soon... Yeah, I noticed they often seemed to come back to Europe and the UK later, so I wasn't sure what the norm is. I think I will try to score some tix, otherwise it will have to be a trip into Europe or waiting for the next album for me to see a show :P Now I have to see if I'm buying one or two tickets. I don't usually post here about our upcoming shows unless I'm particularly excited about them. If I shouldn't post this kind of stuff here, just say the word. Tanx. Anyway, here's the lineup: SLAVE UNIT KEVEL LOWKI KINETO <-- the band I play in THIN ACID ANGEL The date & location: Friday, June 17, 2005 Rooster's Roadhouse 1700 Clement Ave (at Grand Street) Alameda, CA 8pm, 18+, $8 Here's the scoop on each band according to their websites: SLAVE UNIT - http://www.myspace.com/slaveunit "Slave Unit was conceived in 1992 by Mike Welch and Torsten Hartwell. Both were trying to create music that combined the styles that drove them. Technology with an aggressive musicianship describes the formula of this San Francisco/Bay Area punk industrial band. Influenced by punk, hardcore, industrial and hip hop, the sound strikes you with powerful rhythms weighted with bass heavy beats, original samples and crunching guitars. The lyrics, solely written by singer Mike Welch, are often based on observations and reflections of human behavior and error. "The band has played with a broad range of groups such as Marilyn Manson, Stabbing Westward, Neurosis, Sheep on Drugs, Crash Worship, Babyland, Hate Dept, Spawn Ranch, and Diatribe. The group takes pride in their ability to play for a diverse audience and are comfortable playing various venues. Wherever Slave Unit are they have the unique ability to appeal to any audience. "Slave Unit has also become an independent production group capable recording, mixing, mastering and remixing it's own music as well as others. Slave Unit's future plans include more involved work scoring films and soundtracks for independent productions." KEVEL - no url. I don't know anything about this band, but I know the booker and trust his choices, since all the other bands on this bill are cool. LOWKI - http://www.lowkimusic.com "LOWKI formed at the dawn of the new millenium. The band hails from (EAST BAY) Northern California. Their sound is as solid and diverse as their line up. With their brand of Heavy, Dynamic, Groove, it's no wonder the revolutionary sound has been gaining force around the entire bay area. LOWKI's purpose is to provoke thought and raw emotion through their music on stage as well as off. The vibe generated from this up and coming quartet is difficult to classify. LOWKI prefers it this way!" KINETO - http://kineto.net "Kineto was founded by bassist and composer Dan Menapace. The original incarnation, including current vocalist Forest Huggins and drummer Noah Appleton, was the San Francisco Bay Area band known as B-Phase. After a few years of writing music and playing shows all around the Bay Area, the original guitarist chose to pursue other interests, and the remaining members elected to take a much-needed break from the local music scene. During this respite, Dan, Forest and Noah continued to write new material for a potential new hard rock project, while Dan also continued work as his alter ego, the electronic explorations of Suboculis. By the summer of 2003, Dan began working with guitarist Rick Audet, who was a long-time acquaintance and fan of the B-Phase days. It took no time to realize that Rick was the missing piece to the puzzle, delivering his inventive noise guitar and precision fretwork to the mix. Regrouping with the vocal weirdness of Forest Huggins and solid grooves brought by Noah Appleton, the foursome finished work on the new material as well as some re-working of older songs, creating the definitive sound that is Kineto." THIN ACID ANGEL - http://www.thinacidangel.com "Thin Acid Angel was formed in 2000 out of late-night sessions at the legendary Coast Recorders in San Francisco. Between guitarist Loren Routh and singer Minor Gray the two fused a sound that was both hard rocking and trance-inducing. After playing with a number of other musicians in the bay area clubs, they hit the perfect combination with the addition of bassist Dainzo and drummer Beerwolf. "Old school elements of Judas Priest, UFO and Thin Lizzy can be heard in the band's progressive backdrop, as well as fringed punk style of The Damned, Monster feedback and a driving rhythm lay the foundation for lyrical storytelling. "TAA's live shows are straight-up hard rock, with tight arrangements and an unpredictable stage show." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Jun 2005 09:00:10 +0100 From: Antony Gelberg To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: London gigs - question to the 2 Grahams and Anthony Message-ID: <42B1318A.8020202@antgel.co.uk> Niall Connaughton wrote: > Thanks for the info. I left Sydney 3 years ago and I am still astonished by the high cost of living in the UK, compared to Australia. London is even far more expensive than where I live. Maybe we can meet up before the gig, there are lots of pubs around the venue.
