Dare I say more innovative and inspired than what I've been hearing from him on the new DT, but it's probably because the Frameshift project sounds like a more experimental musical project. That said, how is LaBrie's new solo CD? Any opinions? As the answer is a ballywho'd and resounding "yeah, mf'er, yeah!", I don't recall getting a standards sheet informing me that all DT posts must be of a glowingly positive nature. If you actually read my missives and op posts, you'll see it's an objective critical personal analysis and opinion piece from me on the new DT release. I wasn't really aware that if I had nothing 100% entirely positive to say, my opinion would be discounted. I offered my viewpoints, for better and worse, and I stand by them. I don't have blind faith in everything DT does, nor will I ever. I can say I've been a huge fan for many years, and while my opinion is no better or worse than anyone else's, it's just as valid whether it's glowingly positive or refreshingly critical. One of the things I like about the Jam is the plethora of opinions. I could care less whether they are good or bad - indifference is the enemy of interesting and enlightening discussion. As for my "high standards", sorry... I don't have high standards for music... just personal one's. And because I'm relatively passionate and interested in DT as a musical force, I would postulate that my opinions critiquing OCTAVARIUM are actually quite reflective of conviction in listening to DT music extensively. You can say whatever you want, obviously I disagree, which is all good. Like I mentioned before, DT is one of the only bands who's CD's I purchase on release day, sound unheard and sight unseen, if that makes you feel any better. Suffice to say, more on OCTAVARIUM to come, but I won't offer up false opinions that I feel are unwarranted. C'aio! I have yet to hear the new one with Bach. The solo CD... meh. Only one track stood out as memorable, the rest didn't seem to pique my interests... I'll try it again soon. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Allroundniceguy" To: "Multiple recipients of list" Sent: Saturday, June 11, 2005 6:37 AM Subject: Frameshift >I just recently heard a track from Frameshift on a CD Sampler from >PROGRESSION Mag and > it was quite impressive. Message-ID: -------------------------------1118500183 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" I'm with you guys as far as my DT go. I like the earlier stuff the best. I have only listened to the latest three times now. I like it, but it seems "safe" to me. I guess the thing that bothers me are the lyrics. I just expect better. I also wonder if "I walk beside you" was intentionally popish. It doesn't fit the DT mold, in my opinion. I like it, it's catchy, but it reminds my too much of U2, with magical mystery tour backing vocals. Any way, I like the music on this album. No compaints there. Just wish the lyrics were better. Just my opinion. jacko -------------------------------1118500183 ---YTSEJAM FILTER: Rest of message skipped because of attachment ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Jun 2005 10:37:54 EDT From: email_address_removed To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: Graham Message-ID: -------------------------------1118500673 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" I'm with Scott. I don't care if someone totally rips on DT in this forum. It's about personal opinions. If some one spends there hard earned coin on something, they deserve to rant about it any way they like. Good or bad. We can agree to disagree here. We're all adults and nothing in this forum is usually a personal attack on another forum member. I personally like reading some scathing reviews. I'd hate to be reading nothing but lemming reports.
