I think this is one of James' best performances ever, and the variety of his singing in the album is incredible. Yes, he does things in it that you probably have never heard from him before. It seems that Henning Pauly has the ability to do that with vocalists, since I hear the new Frameshift with Sebastian Bach has him singing in ways not even he knew he could. I have no idea how James compares between Frameshift and Octavarium, since I'm still waiting for CDUniverse to send me my package (one of the items in my order is on backorder :-( Alexis __________________________________ Discover Yahoo! Message-ID: Actually posts like this make me wonder if you like DT and if it is so poor, when bother listening ? LaBrie ? For me this is his best and most varied performance. He's using his voice is lots of different ways. I've never been a massive fan is his shrieking or live performances this time he's come out with a stella performance. Most 50 min CD's are too short, if you get 80 mins of a quality album, great. Production is and mix is also their best since Awake. Listen on a decent hifi please... Can I say great job by MP and JP ? So do tell us what kind of prog you think satisfies your obvious high standards :) WBR Graham ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Jun 2005 20:41:46 +1000 From: "Niall Connaughton" To: Subject: RE: Variations on Dream Theater opinions. Message-ID: I think the production is a big step up from ToT, but the songs still tend to wander off the track for a while before they return. I don't know jack about how they write their music, but it seems since they've been their own producers, the songs haven't been quite as tight as they once were. Every album for years, it's moan, moan, moan. It's like, "I'm a big Dream Theater fan but I dislike and moan about all of the music that they have released since Images And Words". I even like FII. I was listening to it the other day. Sure, there are things about DT that I don't like. For example, the song "Another Day". All the I+W evangelisers can take that song and shove it up their collective arses. But I choose to take the rough with the smooth instead of surmising that as I like _prog_, that I can whinge and moan because I'm on some superior intellectual plane to the average music "fan". It's painful to hear. Having said that, I would now like to moan about the new website which I think looks cheap and nasty, and is well below Mark's usual standard. The fonts, colouring scheme, and backdrop would look out of place on a pub band website. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Jun 2005 08:00:25 -0700 From: Brian To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: dream theater concert Message-ID: Just scored sweet tickets for the Dream Theater/Megadeth show in San Diego, I'm stoked about that. Just got the CD yesterday, I've only listened to the first tune so far, I don't really dig long intros before music happens, but thats just me.
