"Winterheart's Guild" is a great album (I have the one before this, forget the name right now, but WG is better). They closest thing they sound like is to Shadow Gallery, but more consistent, and slightly less cheesy (though I like SG). They are, of course, influenced by DT. My friend brought me the first album when he visited from Germany, but I found WG at a CD shop here in the Bay Area, so they are findable outside of where they are from. I saw they have some tourdates in the Eastern US this summer, too. Good musicians with some cool solos, but SO cheesy... I couldn't stand more than a few songs before I got the gist of their entire album. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Zachary Gemmill" To: "Multiple recipients of list" Sent: Thursday, March 31, 2005 5:38 PM Subject: Re: another question > This is a multipart message in MIME format. > --=_alternative 007C241C88256FD5_ > charset=us-ascii > > < band that could at least be compared to liquid tension experiment (besides > DT, of course), but no luck so far... the closest i got was the steve > morse records, and maybe one of the Kopecky albums. i need something very > melodic, and at the same time progressive and heavy. recommendations?>> > > Have you tried SonataArctica? Message-ID: -------------------------------1112314475 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" I just received the new James Labrie CD in the mail. On first listen I think that this is pretty cool !! But ..... the best part is that if one looks deep into the liner notes, we see that none other than the Ytsejam's long-time member Mr. Brian Wherry gets "partial" musical composition credits for almost half the songs (sorry if I mis-spelled it). HOW COOL !!! Bet his contribution wasn't trivial .... This may not get Brian a paid retirement to a villa overlooking the Mediterranean but on first listen, I think his songs are really decent and represent the better ones on the CD. And, it should not be overlooked that Brian is a really nice guy !! And, how cool that James whips up a little ol' fashioned metal on a bunch of songs ?? Love 'n' Kisses in all the right places .... ;) Marky Mark -------------------------------1112314475 ---YTSEJAM FILTER: Rest of message skipped because of attachment ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Mar 2005 21:44:38 -0300 From: Eduardo Ojeda To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: another question Message-ID: > Have you tried SonataArctica? Hmm Sonata Arctica couldn't be farther away from LTE... Actually, I haven't heard anything that actually sounds like LTE, except some (and I mean SOME) DT instrumentals, obviously. I just hope they fucking get around to releasing the LTE outtakes!! I mailed the record company and they told me "it was beign worked out", meaning "we still can't get along with MP". Damn them all, that music is doing no good in storage. - Edu ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Mar 2005 16:46:25 -0800 (PST) From: Rick Audet To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: A new star among us ..... Speaking of which, I just got the Bumblefoot DVD, which is a low-budget recording of a performance at the Raleigh Music Academy on March 27, 2004, and the backup guitar player is none other than Chris Ptacek. Chris is an excellent player, and Ron Thal totally tears it up on that DVD. Cashman" To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: ProgPower USA VI tickets onsale April 2nd Message-ID: .....Just a reminder that tickets for ProgPower USA VI go onsale this Sat. morning, presumably at ten, via Ticketmaster. They are apparently listing it as both ProgPower VI and III, but both go to the same place. An event ticket will consist of two separate physical tickets, one for each night. Here's the lineup, including the pre-show party: PPUSA VI pre-show party (Thursday Sept. 15th at The Loft, same building as Earthlink Live, separate ticket at door): 1. Orphaned Land (Israel) -- North American exclusive acoustic set 2. Outworld (US) 3. Avian (US) feat. people from Pyramaze, Balance Of Power, Lilitu, F5 4. Dreamscape (Germany) -- performed at PPUSA last year; pre-show headliner for 2005 PPUSA Night 1 (Friday Sept. 16th, Earthlink Live) 1. Manticora (Denmark) -- excl. North American debut 2. Circus Maximus (Norway) -- excl. North American debut 3. Orphaned Land (Israel) -- North American debut 4. Conception (Norway) -- worldwide exclusive reunion show 5. Angra (Brazil) PPUSA Night 2 (Saturday Sept. 17th, Earthlink Live) 1. Stride (USA) -- making the jump from pre-show party performance to main festival stage 2. Symphorce (Germany) -- excl. North American debut; feat. Andy Franck of Brainstorm 3. Pink Cream 69 (Germany) -- excl. N. American debut; feat. David Readman (ex-Adagio, etc.) 4. Therion (Sweden) -- sponsored by yours truly :) 5. Stratovarius (Finland) -- first-ever US performance It will sell out, but it will probably take a few days.... ProgPower USA is not the world's biggest metal fesival, but it's one of the best-run, and in one of the best venues for a festival of its size you could ever imagine. I'm proud to be a continuing sponsor of the festival (Devin Townsend, Nightwish, Pain of Salvation and now Therion). This is oldtime Ytsejammer Glenn Harveston's dream-become-reality, and he has almost singlehandedly changed the face of metal in the USA forever. -- +----------- Paul W.
