I've never heard of her but I'll give her a shot. What's the first book to get? As to MY recommendations: For crime fiction, I'm a big fan of Andrew Vachss. He writes in the first person and has really well drawn-out characters. He's mainly known for his 'Burke' series, but he has some stand alone novels that are worth checking out. Very hard-boiled stuff. Email me with any questions on him. For thrillers, I really like Michael Slade. Slade is the pen name of some Vancouver lawyers who write some very graphic horror/thriller fiction set withing the Canadian RCMP. They aren't afraid to kill or maim main characters or take them in totally unpredictable directions. Once again, email me with any questions. And that, my friends, is my 2 cent's worth. Happy reading, and happy holidays, everyone! Overall, I didn't think the last trilogy was quite as good as the rest, but was still a good read. The original Farseer trilogy was my favourite. > -----Original Message----- > From: ytsejam@torchsong.com [mailto:ytsejam@torchsong.com]On Behalf Of > Matt Rose > Sent: Friday, 24 December 2004 4:24 PM > To: Multiple recipients of list > Subject: Re: ytsejambook club > > > Thanks for the tip on Robin Hobb. I've never heard of her but > I'll give her > a shot. What's the first book to get? The first book to get is "Assassin's Apprentice", which is part of the Farseer trilogy. After that comes "Royal Assassin" and "Assassin's Quest". The next trilogy is called the Liveship trilogy, and the final trilogy is the Tawny Man trilogy. The middle trilogy is set in the same world in a different location, but is about different people, while the first and last trilogies follow the same characters and regions and are told in the first person. For this reason, a lot of people skip the middle trilogy and go straight to the last to hear more of the story. However, you get a much more continuous and enjoyable story from reading them in order, as they are linked (and working out how is much more interesting than being told flat out in the last trilogy, then knowing it for all of the middle trilogy when you go back to it). Anyway, go out and pick up the Farseer trilogy, and have yourself some good holiday reading! Quite epic - although parts of the last few books dragged a bit. I'd definitely recommend the first few books to any fantasy fan (if there are any others that haven't read them yet). Thanks to everyone who posted in this thread so far, btw - I'm going to try and track down a couple of the books you guys mentioned. After I rest my brain with a Harry Potter book, that is :) Take care, Mark ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Dec 2004 09:57:03 -0000 From: "Calum Borthwick" To: Subject: music Message-ID: DOes anyone out there like a band called Section A? The new DS in my opinion is pretty rocking. The vocals by Wylde I find personally quite weak, sorta a rejected Layne Staley style of whining that I don't think suits the music much. There's a few other somewhat weak songs, but the strong ones are mighty strong. Holdsworth shines on this album, as we all knew he would! I personally think Derek is best at writing the ballsy rock insanity songs. His ballads and excursions into Spanish music are interesting, but I find them not quite as impressive as his other tracks. ----- Original Message ----- From: Calum Borthwick Date: Friday, December 24, 2004 4:57 am Subject: music > > > DOes anyone out there like a band called Section A?
