Provide evidence for any of this, I dare you. Blustering about other people having their head in the sand without giving any facts is another facet of your sickness. 2. If you would like me to do some more hardcore research I will. I am saying nothing about the validity of the Vietnam war. The government tied the hands of the military in such a way as to prevent any possibility of winning (mainly to avoid a conflict with China) instead of properly eradicating Communism in Vietnam and China they adopted a policy of containment. Communism is like cancer. You do not contain cancer, you wipe it out with various seemingly extreme methods. Jane Fonda and John Kerry's anti-war efforts did nothing to effect the outcome of the war one way or another. The two things their anti-war campaigns here in America and trips to Vietnam did were: #1 Kept the POWs in the Hanoi hotel and other POW camps up to a year longer than necessary #2 Utterly ruined the reputation of those who bravely fought for their country with one hand tied behind their back. When these soldiers returned home they were beaten, spit upon, left by their wives, and utterly abandoned by the American public. In his congressional speech John Kerry told outright lies about war crimes committed by people he knew. John Kerry turned his back on his band of brothers, and contributed the their harsh rejection when they returned. Have I buried my head? Now, YOU provide proof that we are wrong. No more name calling, I'm trying to hold a civilized debate here. I'm attacking John Kerry not you, so kindly don't attack me. -Dave Schott (ebmusicman84) email_address_removed http://www.rebellion9.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brian D Hayden" To: "Multiple recipients of list" Sent: Wednesday, November 03, 2004 10:59 AM Subject: Re: Kerry > > Yes, as somoene else asked, please explain, since > > all > > of Kerry's antiwar efforts WITH Jane are on tape, > > part > > of congressional record, and quite frankly, common > > knowledge, so no, it's not rhetoric, it's a proven > > fact, unless you have your head in the sand and the > > only place you get your information is by watching > > biased media ala Michael Moore. > > 1. This conversation is over until you read some books, my friend. > #1 Kept the POWs in the Hanoi hotel and other POW camps up to a year longer > than necessary This seems to be the thrust of the Fonda bile, have anything to back it up? It's an utterly unprovable and un-disprovable conjecture. > #2 Utterly ruined the reputation of those who bravely fought for their > country with one hand tied behind their back. When these soldiers returned > home they were beaten, spit upon, left by their wives, and utterly abandoned > by the American public. Reports of soldiers being spit upon, etc, have become such a mythos that people forget it's pretty much an urban legend. Were there a few wackjobs out there who hated the soldiers as well as the war? Of course. I'm sure they numbered far less than the good Americans who were A-OK with the war because it was a good chance to kill a bunch of gooks. What *was* prevalent was a very unfortunate unease with those who returned, just wishing that they were invisible. It's very sad, but it's human nature and had not a damn thing to do with Jane Fonda; the majority of the country believed the war was wrong. You can't gloss over this, and they didn't know how to handle the human consequence of a moment of true American dishonor. It was a defense mechanism with painful, painful consequences, because we're all fallible human beings. > In his congressional speech John Kerry told outright lies about war crimes > committed by people he knew. John Kerry turned his back on his band of > brothers, and contributed the their harsh rejection when they returned. Yes. If you know something terrible is going on, you should ignore it. Did he exagerrate, yeah. He admits it. But someone sure as hell had to say the things he said. Never forget that those atrocities WERE happening. There were random massacres of civilians. Anyone who wants to conveniently gloss over this is inhuman. > Now, YOU provide proof that we are wrong. Your central argument, that Jane Fonda and John Kerry lost the war and made life worse for POWs (which John McCain and many other POWs have said is crap) is utterly untestable... > No more name calling, I'm trying to hold a civilized debate here. .. and hence, no, you aren't trying to hold a civilized debate here. There's no debate to be had without facts. > I'm attacking John Kerry not you, so kindly don't attack me. But see, you are attacking me. You're attacking every American that doesn't buy into this bullshit, your subtext is that we don't deserve to be Americans because we don't like going around murdering the barbarian-boogeyman-flavor-of-the-month. Guess what? A large majority of the country has believed that the war is and was wrong. According to Gallup's tracking of this issue since the start of the war until now, more than half the country believed the war was wrong by late 1968, and it's been between a third and 3/4 of the country since the war ended. Thirty years. Most of us, us Americans who you obviously think unworthy of the title, believe that the things being done in OUR NAME in Vietnam were wrong, and someone had to say it. The fact that you're jumping in here with FONDA and not anything about what's happening in our country now says all anyone needs to know. If you wanted a civilized debate, you'd talk about the present and the future; or at least the aspects of the past that MATTERED, not whether Kerry sat near Fonda at a rally. Totally absurd. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Nov 2004 13:17:44 -0600 From: "Souter, Jan-Michael" To: "'ytsejam@torchsong.com'" Subject: RE: take me off Message-ID: That's right.
