Message-ID: Oh well, I guess they're a like 'em or hate 'em. The first time I listened to BE, I was thinking "yeah yeah, whatever", but it has really grown on me. I think it's actually a really good album, probably my second favourite, after TPE. I've heard some people say that there are no individual stand out songs with PoS, such as Metropolis, Learning to Live, etc for DT. But I don't think PoS's music works like that, you take the album as a whole... > -----Original Message----- > From: ytsejam@torchsong.com [mailto:ytsejam@torchsong.com]On Behalf Of > Souter, Jan-Michael > Sent: Tuesday, 2 November 2004 7:38 PM > To: Multiple recipients of list > Subject: RE: P.O.S. > > > Mornin' JeffRoooo > > I'm one of those guys who was not completely negative on Pain of > Salvation. > (note past tense). Thumbs DOWN. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Nov 2004 05:02:38 -0500 From: "Christopher Oates" To: Subject: POS Message-ID: I'm a huge POS fan. They were the highlight of ProgPower for me this year (though their short set 2 years ago was disappointing) and are probably my favorite band at the moment. They are all about experimentation and making interesting music, which is, to me, what makes a real "progressive" band. "BE" is hardly metal, but like Opeth's Damnation, it's an experiment. It's certainly not an album I can listen to in any mood (unlike Remedy Lane, which is one of the best things ever committed to CD) but a worthy and interesting trip. DT, on the other hand, have really bored me lately. The last album that I really liked all the way through was FII. It seems like since they brought Jordan in, they are trying to out-copycat the DT clone bands, and have lost their edge. Still a better purchase than just about anything heard on the radio, but the spark has left. To each his own. ~Chris ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Nov 2004 21:27:42 +1100 From: "Niall Connaughton" To: Subject: RE: POS Message-ID: I mostly agree with your post, except I wouldn't say that BE is that much of an experiment for PoS, certainly not as much as Damnation was for Opeth. It would be an experiment if DT did something like BE. I think 6DOIT was meant to be an experiment, but it doesn't catch me... I don't care what the rest of the world thinks, but I refuse to vote for some who is in favor of cutting partially born babies brains out. I also have less than no respect for Kerry due to the horrible things he did a la Jane Fonda to the Vietnam Veterans. Definitely not the man anyone should want in the white house. Now of course Bush sucks too, so I voted for E.
