Message-ID: -------------------------------1092524190 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Thanks everyone for giving me advice. We have kinda created a style that sounds original and have gotten alot of compliments on it. We played a Battle of the Bands this past weekend and a judge said "Nice Job on the drum solo, sure beats the hell out of talking". They (The band) have allowed me a drum solo so I can show off my 16 yrs or so experiance (Litterally all my life! And I have pictures to prove it you doubting mother...sorry.lol). So, I do tone down my drumming quite a bit to fit the music. I only use double bass in 2 sonngs and even then they are toned down. Since reading all your comments I decided that the band would probebly fizzle out if I leave because my drumming carries the songs and I fill the holes they have no idea how to fill in the song. All the places we play won't allow other people on stage who arn't the band so I need there help big time. Plus its not like I can tone down my kit. I use everything on my kit and everything serves a purpose. I take pride in my kit and the fact that it wasn't just thrown together makes me proud. So, I am forming a ProgRock band (Hopeing to be like Spocks Beard. Recently ive REALLY gotten into them. ) And I am going to talk to them about everything and tell the singer/bass player (Hes really the one who ive been fighting with) that if his additude doesn't change and if he doesn't lossen his grip (Hes a control freak and if its not his idea he doesn't like it) I will quit and move on because im always getting offers to join bands. People come up to me after the show or email me all the time so I doubt I will be bandless for very long. Once again, thanks everyone for your help. To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Too prog Message-ID: Well, depends on your band dynamic. If it's a lead singer and a backing band, then really, you gotta play the part. If you are a studio musician, or just a temporary musician, then likewise, you have only certain creative freedom. Even in a democratic band situation, the entire musical posse needs to come to some consensus or compromise regarding the musical direction and application. If you are playing "too prog" then simplify it (which does mean play everything in 4/4 or whatnot), start simple and build from there, so you don't scare your compadre's.
