Their individual playing isn't the most challenging, but their orchestration is. Unfortunately, they have to strip down their songs in order to play them live, that's why i don't think them much of a live band, even if i'm an old fan of theirs. I'm not saying you're definately gonna like that album, but it sure is a different experience than a live show and certainly worth the shot, albums like that don't come by that often. cheers, cassidy -- "[Pause] These go to eleven". Nightfall in Middle Earth is perfectly indicative of what an unoriginal, grating, train wreck of a band BG are. They're one of those bands that render parody unnecessary. IMO. obviously. -brian ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 May 2004 12:32:44 -0500 From: "Souter, Jan-Michael" To: "'ytsejam@torchsong.com'" Subject: RE: Getting Into Blind Guardian Message-ID: Yep, already downloaded 3 of their CDs in the past long before the recent tour. Not slamming the band.. Personally just not my cup of tea. No biggie. Plenty of other bands out there :) Had a friend try to get me into them back around '98 but never panned out then either. -----Original Message----- From: cassidy [mailto:email_address_removed Souter, Jan-Michael wrote: > Yup. The album came out in 1974, before specialized fonts were commonly used on computers. I doubt the boys from Rush bothered to have a printer create an entire font for that album. ;-) On the other hand, I suppose it's possible that since then somebody created their own font based on those 4 letters. ;) Steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 May 2004 12:55:53 -0700 From: "Trevor Hoit" To: Subject: blind earth Message-ID: <000b01c44292$4a0f6d80$message_id_removed> >>They played after Symphony X the last time I saw them. >>I wasn't that impressed, just for the record. >Yup. A very intimate side of the band comes out, plus being able to meld bits of 10+ songs together smoothly takes talent (we all know DT can do it, though...). I like the somewhat downtempo version of Ashes too, it's a total unexpected mood change. I wouldn't recommend for fans of the pure metal side of PoS, or the pure metal anything for that matter, though... ----- Original Message ----- From: Souter, Jan-Michael To: Multiple recipients of list Sent: Tuesday, May 25, 2004 5:17 PM Subject: RE: blind earth uggggghh I was listening to Pain of Salvation's CD "125" and it's absolutely HORRID, in my own personal opinion. Heh heh - that's funny that in the same 'jam (yeah I like digest mode), that you praise Pantera, but mention how you can't dig into BG at all. While I wouldn't say that I'm a huge BG fan, I dig some of their stuff and own several CDs of their's. With the exception of Cemetary Gates, I can't stand Pantera whatsoever. :-p Different strokes for different folks, eh? Wow, if you spun "Cowboys from Hell", none of those songs do anything for ya ??? They don't get you into air guitar and air drum heaven ? You don't beat the hell out of your steering wheel going down the highway? You don't get caught up in it and forget how fast you are going?
