She doesn't sound as high in the audio mix as previous CDs. There is a lot more singing from another band member or members. THE GUITARS ARE HEAVY AS HELL. That jumps right out at you from the beginning and pretty much maintains. There are some good slower songs and passages also. Verdict? Definite purchase, even for those that don't have much previous Nightwish. All the elements are still there, just heavier guitars and a little less of the Tarja operatic vocals we've come to know and love. JM -----Original Message----- From: Ambassador Nelaskon [mailto:email_address_removed OK, so I'm on Amazon, and I see a review that says that Tarja tones down the extreme operatic stuff a bit on the newest album. Well, my question is, how extreme is the change? Does she actually hold her notes when she's singing? I posted just yesterday that her constant operatic vibratos ruined their music for me. Do you guys think she's shifted her style enough that this would no longer be the case? Or is it just like maybe 2 songs where she sings a little different in only a couple places? Thanks, guys! Message-ID: That is interesting. Especially after the comments that Neal made of Portnoy's effort on the Rush Tributes CD "Working Man". heh -----Original Message----- From: email_address_removed [mailto:email_address_removed Rush is going to release a new cover album due out June 29th of this year. It includes songs from artists such as The Who, The Yardbirds, and Buffalo Springfield. It looks awesome. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 May 2004 07:36:12 -0500 From: "Souter, Jan-Michael" Subject: RE: After Forever cookiness Message-ID: This is one of the funniest posts I've read in quite a while. I've listened to the entire new After Forever CD and I can hear in my head exactly what you typed. Hysterical. Damn cookie crap RUINS song after song. RRROOOOAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :( But this is the first After Forever CD I've been able to listen to all the way through. Seems as though the cookie monster doesn't dominate every song. So it's actually listenable to me. Like I said before, I try to cough or clear my throat or something while the Cookie is present. heh heh jm -----Original Message----- From: Ambassador Nelaskon [mailto:email_address_removed Also, those 2 After Forever tracks that Mike has sent me still sound pretty good on headphones, but I put them on speakers and uuuuugh.... NO, it's not production that's the problem, it's "COOKIE!!!" On headphones, you hear the growling a bit, but it fades into the music a bit more. On speakers, it stands right out and you hear "BRAHHG BLAGHH RAAAAAAAR BRUUUUUUGH BLAAAAAAAAR ME WANT COOKIE ROOOOOOOOOR BRAAAAAHR DESTROOOOY!!!" right over the top of the music. Again, :( If I get this, it will probably remain on headphones almost all the time. If only they would do it like Lacuna Coil does. That doesn't sound Cookie Demon at all, but it's still pretty strong and menacing in places.Maybe I should consider AF's EP right before this new album, with apparently only 1 cookie track and 5 with just Floor singing. Production ain't all that great, but it's not so bad as Decipher. Oh well, anyway... The Cyaron, who is wondering just how damned good Nightwish with (the new) Floor Jansen would sound. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 May 2004 07:58:15 -0500 From: "Souter, Jan-Michael" To: "'ytsejam@torchsong.com'" Subject: RE: Because Message-ID: I dunno man... 60s music ? Most of us on the list were born in the late 60s or way past... 1968 myself. Those bands and songs just don't do anything for me personally. I'm sure for many they don't... But there are many that will buy this CD anyway. Good luck to them :)) -----Original Message----- From: Scott Hansen [mailto:email_address_removed they can!
