Back in High school( c/o '89 ) all I would listen to was Metallica Megadeth Anthrax Ozzy etc. Then a friend turned me on to Yngwie. My first thought was " whats an "eeng wee " then I listened and was blown away. Of course I was impressed with the speed but what really changed my musical attitude was the composition and arrangement, and personally I really dug the vocals and was actually inspired to the point of training my voice to become the vocalist I am today ( of course Bruce Dickinson had a lot to do with that as well as James LaBrie later on ) For those who are of the opinion that Yngwie is only about playing fast without serious content check out "Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra in E Flat Minor Op 1 "on spitfire records label and for the uninitiate check out "The Yngwie Malmsteen Collection " circa 1991 on polygram records. which is a fair representation from "Rising Force" --- "Eclipse" by the way not that it was fun for the lady involved but the incident in which Yngwie and his wife were arrested for kidnapping and sexual assault a few years back reminds me so much of Rick James that when I saw the Dave Chappele skit with Charlie Murphy "I'm Rick James Bitch" I had to mentally substitute " I'm Yngwie Malmsteen Harlot "..... too much As far as Growling vocalists having no talent I have to disagree. Personally I hate it and am tickled by the previous analogy of "some people fart better than others" but from my experience when I have heard growlers do clean vocals such as Fear Factory's singer ( can't remember the name ) doing vox on Geezer Butler's GZR album "Plastic Planet "and Opeth's interchanging clean with ugly I have been impressed. Also from experience as a vocalist myself whenever I have tried to learn such songs for purpose of covering them in various bands I have been in I have honestly found it more difficult than the "my underwear is too tight and my nuts are up to my navel" high pitched vocals like Steelheart, ( the guy doing the vox for Mark Wahlberg on the movie "Rock Star" or from more recently Darkness (which I despise but get perverse pleasure from making fun of ) Now don't get me wrong I am far from being an outstanding vocalist, and singers such as Labrie and Dickinson are more to my natural register but I must say to just write off the cookie monster as having no talent is a bit judgmental whether you like the sound or not. Any way so much for this rant, see y'all in the funny papers Billy np--Thousand Foot Krutch "Phenomenon" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 May 2004 23:30:28 +0000 (UTC) From: Eric George To: The `Jam Subject: RUSH tour Message-ID: hey, is anyone from the `Jam making it to the RUSH show in Pittsburgh on May 31st?? maybe we can hook up pre-show? always nice to meet some local (or not-so-local) Ytsejammers. by the way, for those that have never seen RUSH before, i strongly advise that you take advantage of this tour, since we may not be seeing Alex for the next 5 years, depending on what happens when he sees the judge..... hope to see some of you there. peace. -- Best Regards, Independent Computer Consultant, Eric George -Tech Guru's "The least important things in life get the most appreciation.
