Lucky I didn't have another cup of tea then, I would have spilt it too :-P No, it's having a job which lets me listen to music the whole time I'm here :D Ooh, speaking of which...now playing - Megadeth: Skin o' My Teeth. *stops work for a few minutes* Followed by Apocalyptica: Romance. *continues to not work for a few more minutes* >Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2004 19:09:37 -0700 (PDT) >From: Dave Peterson >Usually, I've been the "advocate" for death metal on this list, but it >seems >the torch has been handed. Look guys, let's get real. Dimmu Borgir and >Children of Bodom are NOT AT ALL representative of standard Death Metal. >They >are kick-ass progressive offshoots, as is Opeth, Tristania, Meshuggah, In >Flames and Soilwork. Aye, and you are right - these aren't 'straight-ahead' standard death metal bands at all. They're melodic death which is different again :-) >Date: Wed, 28 Apr 2004 17:26:12 -0400 >From: WB Henderson >Lucky Aussies. Alchemist rules. They are playing ProgPower Europe this year! :D Which is interesting, because while they have elements of both prog and power metal in their music, I wouldn't really call them either. Still it'll be awesome for them to get overseas :-) -- Karyn _________________________________________________________________ Personalise your phone with chart ringtones and polyphonics. Who knows - maybe part of it will be on the DVD - I think Mike will be good for making sure something extra is thrown on there - especially since he had to drop 3 songs from the setlist he had planned because of the strict curfews that were imposed (requiring a show no longer than 3 hours). FYI - not sure if you were aware or not (as your post seems that you aren't) but Derek and Charlie only came out for the encore. Actually, Derek was only out for Metropolis - Charlie was a part of both Metropolis and TLF. The current lineup were the only ones to perform WDaDU - Mike told me this was because so many had been asking for the current lineup to do that album, and now was their chance. > Heard that Kevin was invited but declined. That's not all - Mike said that they were even willing to cover Kevin's airfare from Istanbul (where he currently is) and he still declined. I'm not disappointed that there's lots of new stuff, I always feel like getting out a large stick for fans who bitch that their band played too much new stuff at the concert :P Too much stuff from 6DOIT, and the classics are missing... TTT, UAGM, Metropolis, LtL, Voices, Lie, Scarred, TSCO, LiTS... all classics. Usually they'll slot a couple of them in, especially for a recorded show. I'm sure I'll enjoy the set, but I was disappointed to see the list. I kept reading down, waiting to see the classic songs. No doubt the instrumedly will contain some of them, but I miss the whole song, and especially miss the vocals... instrumedlies give you just enough of the song to make you want it to continue to the end :P Witness LtL on 5YIALT, and compare to LtL on the M2K/LSFNY. What a killer performance of that song! Anyway, I'm still looking forward to it coming out. Trial of Tears is a good one to have, and I've heard a bootleg of JP chucking a killer solo over the end of ITNOG, so if he did that for this show, it will be great. However, I sit next to the CEO. He likes to talk :~( :~( :~( At least I got a run through Entropia today :P A while back, when I was working late all the time and driving instead of taking the train, I was getting 3 hours a day of car listening in. I guess he can't make it much more obvious after having refused a few times that he's not interested :P Clearly we need to take it to the next step. If a free airfare won't convince him, perhaps kidnapping him and locking him in a room with Flesh Mechanic playing on repeat will. If he tries to escape on stage, JM can tackle him. Ever listened to Sound of Perseverance or Symbolic? Or ATHEIST? Or MORBID ANGEL (blessed are the sick)? Or ENTOMBED? Not as technically challenging as the bands previously mentioned but surprisingly groove-oriented, not to mention their outstanding live performance. The list goes on with Napalm Death, At the Gates, Cynic, Nile etc On the other hand, i have never heard of Anal Blast (???) and judging by their name i have no intention to. As for Carcass - Heartwork, Ammot's guitar work is simply brilliant. At least i rank it higher than his latest Arch Enemy releases. And i've never bothered to read the lyrics really...
