Much along the same vein (veign? vain?) but slightly less heavy is Virgil's one album only band called "On The Virg" whose album is titled "Serious Young Insects". Also on the top of my playlist. Features a variety of sick musicians. If you like that, another aussie drummer Sam Aliano ( who studied with or played with Virgil, or both) recruited most of the OTV musicians for his album emalgamation. Also a great album, but I personally like OTV better. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dan Costello To: Multiple recipients of list Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2004 9:23 PM Subject: RE: Virgil Donati I don't know much about him, except that he played drums for Steve Vai on the 2001 G3 tour. -Dan. >Forgive my ignorance. Then the kids came along. All of a sudden there are other priorities. Unless I was alone, the only music we've had in the car is Bob the Builder, the Wiggles etc just to keep the kids entertained. My wife won't allow metal to be played when the kids are around. She thinks they'll become possessed or something. Whoever has kids would know all about it. I get choked up when I see him banging his little head when I've been listening to Sevendust or Rammstein lately, when mum's not around of course:-) Anyway I'm getting back into things now. This sounds like a "must buy". Tonight. I haven't heard any new Satriani since The Extremist or Vai since Passion and Warfare. It's been that long in the wilderness, partly because my friend that put me on to Rush, DT, Truimph, Ozzy etc tragically died in a motorbike accident a few years ago. He was my source of much good music. >you definitely as a fan of prog, metal and of good music, should check out >Planet X cds, most notably their most recent Moonbabies. I dunno whose tastes are what, but I certainly have a wide variety of metal / prog / instrumental / not prog / not instrumental tastes, and I absolutely LOVE moonbabies and OTV. Two of the best CD's I own. I disliked the "much too" mathematical side of this one. Liquid Drum Theater => A must have for all. Amazing. 1/2 LTE, 1/2 DT. I've looked at it hundreds of times. Being one of the few mentally ill to have tried to play DoE I especially liked the timing bit at the end with MPs personnal notes. great laugh. I have a question concerning that for you great timing experts out there: How the f**k do they get through the tempo changes (I'm not talking about timing changes) ? There are no equivalences. Surely no-one human group can get through such tempo changes while staying together... but I have seen them live and they do. But then again DT aren't humain, they only make appearances on the Earth. bye bye, ACBLF. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Apr 2004 00:32:56 -0700 (PDT) From: Minhaz Ahmed To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 6853 Message-ID: > And wasn't Macalpine in a band called Racer X, and > had a column on Guitar > World magazine about that time? no. it was Paul Gilbert and Bruce Buellite Macalpine played keys in Vinnie Moors first album ..Mind's Eye... while our Jordan Rudess played in the second album.
