Petrucci is not Neil Peart, but ToT is the best DT release to date. Seeing them perform last week made that really obvious to me. BTW, don't know if they did this at other shows, but at the NYC show they had the cellist who plays on Vacant (Eugene Friesen) come up and play for three songs. Vacant, Disappear and most impressively on Stream of Consciousness. He was mixed in very nicely and was even more bassy than Myung. He played SOC almost perfectly and was quite animated. It was a real treat to see that. A middle aged, gray haired, beret wearing cellist banging his head with Dream Theater! One of the highlights of the show was when Portnoy brought up two audience members to play with him during the drum solo. "You! In the Megadeath t-shirt, get up here!" then he got someone from the very last row who actually sat behind the kit with Portnoy and they played. It was really cool to see and now doubt there was not one person who was not in complete envy of the chosen ones. Overall it was an amazing show. Well he isnt Alex Lifeson either, but why go THAT far ;) ;) sounds like a great show! I haven't heard a drum solo from MP in years though, too bad they got one.
