You mean like how MP is taking responsibility for the action of chucking the drum paraphenalia? This is just a test. there is no track/band info in the files yet (id3 tags) and yes I know they're not in mp3 format, but .ogg format. Anyway, just wondering what you guys think of the recording. I was 16th row floor, and using a Sharp MD-MT831, and a pair of mics from Core Sound. I added some compression later, but no EQ or any other processing was done. http://bumpy.braille.uwo.ca/~chriss/dt.zip Let me know what you think. I have the originals still so can take another run at cleaning them up if necessary, add ID3 tags, convert to mp3, etc. Chris ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Mar 2004 18:25:02 -0500 From: Chris Smart To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Toronto show, some comments... Message-ID: First, it was great seeing DT at Massey Hall, a 2,700-seat venue noted for it's excellent acoustics. The show was great, and the crowd seemed very into it, although I didn't hear much singing. (Check out the latest live Rush release for a crowd that knows all the words!) Instrumentally, I've never heard Petrucci that flawless or just damn fast! Very few players seem to get steadily better over the years like he does. His tone was fat, warm, and there was decent stereo imaging when he switched to his chorusy clean sound. Portnoy: Amazing as usual! I know he worships Pearte - anybody know if Pearte has commented publicly on Portnoy? Anyway, inspirational drumming as always. JR: I paid attention to the keyboards after someone here commented they didn't care much for his presence and main sounds. Personally, I thought his sounds were fine, although he could have been a bit higher in the mix to get through JP's massive wall of guitar. I love when he doubles JP's solos with a xylophone sound - that's straight out of Frank Zappa! I wish they would do more FZ-inspired stuff, maybe cover one of his instrumentals? JM: The bass was a bit too forward in the first song, but then burried for the rest of the show. Personally, I'd like to hear him more - not to mention the poor guy should have some wank time too! The rest get plenty of opportunity to show off; how about a bass solo? Vocals: James' voice was well, strained. This was probably just from the stress of being on tour, but he really was pulling flat a lot, not reaching high notes, or avoiding them altogether. Personally, I was focused more on the instrumental aspects, and maybe James jus tneeds a few days off to rest. Overall, a great show in a great venue!
