Yeah, they are friggin expensive, but I think this would be a good show to see. For me, the visual element of a concert is very important. On the last G3 tour, I liked Satriani's music best out of the 3, but he was pretty boring to watch. Petrucci wasn't much better, but Vai put on an awesome show. The art of showmanship is lost on a lot of people, but not him. From what I've heard, Yngwie's a pretty decent showman. But apparently nobody thinks upstate NY is worthy of decent concerts, so it's not really an issue for me. :-( Oh, and let me vent once again about the idea of having this Hammer of the Gods thing on a Wednesday. :-( :-( :-( Doesn't Portnoy realize that people have work & school the next day? -Dan. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Oct 2003 21:41:22 -0400 From: Mike Shetzer To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: G3 Message-ID: <043601c38baa$f24d01a0$9b00a8c0@mizz> Shiiiiiiiiit... you're going to that? If you're a Zappa fan, you should check them out, since they play all Zappa music, and Ike Willis, Don Preston, and Napoleon Murphy Brock are with the band.. I also have tickets to see Primus, and Crimson (with Living Color opening!!)... I also picked up tix for the Neal Morse show with Mike Portnoy next month... They're going to play Morse's new album in it's entirety (it's great if you haven't heard it), plus some Spocks Beard and Transatlantic stuff... Roy from Brooklyn one of which I already have tix for (Devin Townsend / Symphony X). My >other choices are Primus, Arena or King Crimson. Yah, too expensive, kinda blew out my concert budget this summer with Tori Amos/Ben Folds, DT/QR/FW, Opeth/PTree and Cirque du Soleil.... I was expecting at least one Primus song during the set, but he didn't do any, so that certainly was part of the problem. But, even beyond that, it didn't have that much energy. I'd say go see the band you like the best. I've seen King Crimson and enjoyed their show, but if you're not a big fan then it may not be your cup of tea -- they're more about the music and less about stage presence. I'd be curious to see Arena, does anyone know if they put on a good live show?
