Will be nice when one can enjoy a concert without smoke in the building.. -----Original Message----- From: Alexis Ramos [mailto:email_address_removed I have a bootleg from the FII tour (the one from Den Bosch, which was recorded and sold here on the jam by some guy whose name I forgot) and James was excellent that night. I saw DT in NYC on the first Roseland show, and James was spot on again. He will always have good nights and bad nights on each tour, although the frequency of the bad nights can indeed be diminished, I think. Actually, why does James' voice crack? Is it something physiological about his throat or is it something about technique that he should be able to control? I'm sure it's not the lines he's singing, because I've heard his voice crack on high notes, low notes, you name it. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Aug 2003 09:14:16 -0700 From: "Trevor Hoit" To: Subject: zonder Message-ID: <005d01c36023$9ce549a0$message_id_removed> >I had seen discussion here >that Mark Zonder was not touring with Fates. Sadly, I had to use my crap mic, as the plug on the good one is too dodgy. There are also various "issues" that make this one for the avid fan only! e.g. mobile phone battery low beep, the MD running out just before the amazing bit of the jam in By-tor And The Snow Dog, people talking, you name it... Nevertheless, I believe it was the first time Number Of The Beast" was played, so I want to get it out there. The performance for the two days was amazing. I'm recording my MD's to .wav files, which I'm then going to normalise. Is there any more (automatic) processing that would be a good idea without fucking about too much? Like many boots, it actually doesn't sound too bad when I crank it up. I think it is very high in mids though. A ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Aug 2003 20:18:39 -0500 From: "Todd O. '98... but that was another trip entirely. ;) > >-Nicole/Kirby Hello Nicole, Thanks for reading my post, and sorry if I have caused you confusion. Please allow me to explain the story. The concert was in late October 1997, the opening night of the 'Falling Into Infinity' tour at Toad's Place in New Haven, CT. Deciding to forego studying for a Linear Algebra exam scheduled for the following Monday, I went ahead and took the Greyhound bus down to New Haven to see Dream Theater (no way was I going to let that ticket go to waste; besides, I didn't know any other Dream Theater fans at Tufts at the time aside from my friend Chad, who was already goping to the concert). The concert was great, made special not only by being the first night of the tour and my first time seeing DT but also by having had the opportunity to see John Petrucci play the solo for 'Scarred' about five feet away from me. With the concert complete, and after giving props to James and Derek for the awesome show, I needed to get back to Boston. Chad had told me ahead of time that there were people from Boston going to the show, and I could see about getting a ride back with one of them. Sure enough, there was a blonde female named Nicole there, who at the time was an au pair (i.e. resident nanny) in the Northeast and had the keys to her employers' Volvo 850 Turbo station wagon (they lent it to her while they were away for a vacation). Out of the goodness of her heart, she was willing to drive another DT fan (whose name I forget, but he was an alright fellow) and me back up to Boston. Despite driving at triple-digit speeds and eliciting the attention of a Connecticut state trooper (who for some reason, did not pursue us and pull us over, maybe because our car slowed down upon seeing him), we made it back intact. Between that and the good conversation, it made for an interesting end to the evening. So, Ms Stachowicz, if you were that person with the Volvo station wagon, thank you very much again; I still appreciate it, and I don't know what would have happened to me otherwise. If not, sorry about mistaking you for someone else. If that someone else on the 'Jam recognizes that she was the driver in this story, I give my thanks to you, and please let me know. Thanks for reading!
