I've heard the album and I'll give my basic quick impressions of it. After a couple listens to the first few tracks and one listen to the whole album, I have to say that while I LIKE the sound, it's DEFINITELY not the Beard as we knew it. There are some MAJOR changes to the band's sound, and Nick's voice isn't the biggest of them all. Ryo's keyboard playing is completely changed on this album, as has, well, the rest of the band, too. There are some majorly funky tracks on this... I don't know who I can compare it to. But there's also some classic Beard stuff on this, too, and I'm sure that if you're a Beard fan, you'll like this album. ------------------------------------------------- Andrew Coutermarsh - http://www.acvox.com/ Email Address: andrew at acvox dot com ------------------------------------------------- Baggage checker: Has anyone put anything in your luggage without your knowledge? "I've spent the last month writing solidly for our next studio record and things are coming along just fine. This one is going to be loosely based on a film script I wrote with my friend Mike Bennion (director of the Piano Lessons video) last year and it's quite an ambitious undertaking, particularly if we can get the film made as well as the album. In the meantime PT are starting to prepare for our forthcoming North American tour. It's going to be a pleasure to tour with Opeth, finally a band that we feel a great affinity with. Each show will alternate which band goes on first, but this is truly a double headline, with both PT and Opeth playing full sets each night. We will have a few songs in our repertoire that we haven't played in the North America before from both our recent (eg - Trains) and more distant (wait and see) past, plus maybe the bands will do something together (no promises though). To our European fans we look forward to seeing you again in November. Keep spreading the word!" Porcupine Tree US tour dates... I've heard Opeth will be headlining... which surprises me since I think the success and new sound of Opeth was pretty much created by PT, so I would think Opeth would want PT to be headlining to show their respects. That's just me tho... can't wait to see em anyway!!!! Who thinks Wilson will sing / perform with Opeth as well as perform with PT? That would be awesomeness... --Boundary_(ID_3LGxt9AlW++rDOKJtJp+oA) ---YTSEJAM FILTER: Rest of message skipped because of attachment ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2003 11:47:13 -0400 From: "Alexis Ramos" To: Subject: ytsejam agonizing Message-ID: It's sad to admit, but the ytsejam is definitely agonizing, and I don't think there's anything that will be able to save it. Yeah, holy jeez, a whole week and nothing? Ok, here's news for me: If I can't find a software job in the area, I'm thinking of changing careers and going to school for Music recording. I've only been doing software for 2 years, but I don't know if I want to continue with it. My unemployment runs out at the end of july and my lease is up at the end of august - just in time to go to school. It'll be a community college about an hour away, but I may eventually get a BA/BFA. Well, I'm listening to a track from the new Beard right now on XM radio. It's...more rock than prog, at least at first listen. This song is twenty minutes long, and they're apparently going to play the whole thing. I can't get too specific about the new stuff, as this is all I've heard, but I think most Beard fans will grow to really like this particular song. I think the album comes out in Europe earlier than in the US, but I could be wrong.
