Granted, this is mainly due to the amount of signature keybord and recognizable Kevin Moore vocals but I don't hear much of the other bands coming through (with a few exceptions when the band decides to rock). The Steve Wilson song shutDOWN which could easily have been lifted from Inabsentia by Porcupine Tree. Matheos wrote a lot of the music it seems but I really don't hear much Fates Warning in there. Granted, a lot of the recent FW is more atmospheric than rocking but when I first listen to OSI I could just as easily be listening to Dead Air for Radios. Overall a good disc though. I find that it gets better with each listen. I love The Thing that Never Was. Too bad it couldn't have fit on the main disk, it owuld have wrapped everything up perfectly. To sum up, I find that it is significantly different from Dream Theater and Fates Warning but not from Chromakey. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Feb 2003 16:59:03 -0500 From: WB Henderson To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: Whitaker/Scarred records Message-ID: >Did the original Bahr boots sound this awful? The Bahr boots were primarily live rarity/demo collections, so you kinda got what was available. Some tracks sound great, most decent, others might as well have been recorded in a barrel going over Niagra Falls. The world of bootlegs is a varied one, made all the more apparent when multiple source tapes are used for one disc. Message-ID: Um, I doubt it was a recommendation. By almost all accounts, "Disconnected" is one of Fates' worst albums. Check out "A Pleasant Shade of Grey" or "Parallels" for great modern Fates and ""No Exit" or "Awaken the Guardian" for classic Fates. IMHO, Disconnected is a steaming pile. - Dave --- email_address_removed wrote: > > --part1_11.b37c285.2b8d47d3_boundary > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" > > Rick Audet writes: > > > I'll agree with you that it's great stuff, but have you heard any > > recent Fates Warning, namely, "Disconnected"? > > No, I haven't...I've never really listened to Fates Warning.
