Message-ID: I was at a little party tonight and there was a surf rock / ventures tribute band playing in the basement. Most of the guys were older, except the drummers. One was the regular drummer, who was kinda the stereotypical 30 yr old rock-star wanna be who took himself a little too seriously. The other was the 15 yr old son (still had braces) of one of the guitarists and was just sitting in for the evening - he was quite good. Anyways, I was talking to the older drummer, who tried to get a little chatty (and also a bit arrogant) w/ the younger drummer. Older drummer points out that the kid plays some typical modern rock stuff w/ his high school buddies. The kid then says, "yeah, but we try to play some technical stuff, too. Have you ever heard of Dream Theater?" :-) Granted, he thought 6DOIT was better than Awake, but hey, nobody's perfect. :-) -Dan. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 04:09:22 -0800 (PST) From: Peter Geerts To: YML Subject: Stratovarius + Charlie D. Message-ID: Hey all, I'm going to attend the S-X concert in Belgium at the end of March, and since they open for Stratovarius I was wondering if their last album is any good. I have Visions and Dreamspace, but I can't say that I'm a huge fan. So how about Infinite? And anyone got a preview of Elements 1 yet? Second, like every year or so, I gave WDADU another spin. I know not everyone is particularly fond of Charlie's singing (to say the least) but I always kinda liked him. So my pseudo-poll-like question is: on what song does Charlie annoy you the least? Or formulated more positively, what song kicks ass *because* of Charlie Dominici? My pick: LFAGA: not *only* high-pitched vocals, and nice variation.. (Only a matter of time) But you lost me on the TKH stuff. Are you talking bootleg versions? I only know two recorded Killing Hands: WDADU and Live at the Marquee. So where did KJLB ruin it for you then? On another note, to me, the lyrics to WDADU are in a completely different style than anything they've done afterwards. Long sentences... almost sung storytelling. Couldn't be because of CD because he didn't write any of the lyrics right? Peter __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Does anybody remember that?? Can anyone tell me why they don't do that?? Is there anything related to record company permission?? IMO, that would be a great idea. One or even two live albuns per tour, with different set lists (as they did on the last tour) would make bootlegs totally obsolete. Opinions??? Can anyone tell me why they don't do that?? Is > there anything related to record company permission?? This exact question was just answered by Mike Portnoy in the latest Dream Theater Fan Club newsletter (which is EXCELLENT and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, BTW). The answer was: "It's a matter of management sorting out the technicalities with the label; it's a big waiting game...It's in the hands of the record companies and management. So we'll just continue to wait." That's not the entire quote, but you get the idea. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2003 02:32:45 GMT From: "Laurence Lew" To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: =?ISO-8859-3?B?eXRzZWphbSxEb2VzIFNpemUgUmVhbGx5IE1hdHRlciA/?= Message-ID: <200301202117609.SM01092@Gyotoku> PCEtLUdhdGNoYWxpLS0+PGh0bWw+PGJvZHkgYmdjb2xvcj0jY2NjY2NjPjwhLS1hbi0tPg0KPGRp diBhbGlnbj0iY2VudGVyIj4NCjxjZW50ZXI+DQo8dGFibGUgYm9yZGVyPTAgY2VsbHBhZGRpbmc9 MCB3aWR0aD0iODUlIiBoZWlnaHQ9IjM4NSI+DQo8dHI+IA0KPHRkIGJnY29sb3I9I2NjY2NjYyBo ZWlnaHQ9IjQyNSI+IA0KPHRhYmxlIGJvcmRlcj0xIGJvcmRlcmNvbG9yZGFyaz0jZmZmZmZmIA0K Ym9yZGVyY29sb3JsaWdodD0jODg4ODg4IGNlbGxwYWRkaW5nPTQgY2VsbHNwYWNpbmc9MCANCndp ZHRoPSIxMDAlIj4NCjx0Ym9keT4gDQo8dHI+IA0KPHRkIGFsaWduPXJpZ2h0IGJnY29sb3I9I2Nj Y2NjYyBjb2xzcGFuPTIgaGVpZ2h0PSIyMiI+PCEtLUdhdHRpLS0+IA0KPGRpdiBhbGlnbj0iY2Vu dGVyIj48Zm9udCBjb2xvcj0iI0ZGMDAwMCI+PGI+PGZvbnQgc2l6ZT0iNiI+U0laRSANCkFORCBT VDwhLS1HZWUtLT5BTUlOQSBETyBNQVRURVI8L2ZvbnQ+PC9iPjwvZm9udD48L2Rpdj4NCjwvdGQ+ DQo8L3RyPg0KPHRyPiANCjx0ZCBhbGlnbj1sZWZ0IGJnY29sb3I9I2ZmZmZmZiBjb2xzcGFuPTIg aGVpZ2h0PSIzMTgiPiANCjxwPk1vcmUgVGhhbiBZb3UgQ2FuIFBvc3NpPCEtLUdlb3JnZS0tPmJs eSANCkltYTwhLS1HaGF6emFnaC0tPmdpbmUhISBTaGUgaXMganVzdCB0cnk8IS0tR2lic29uLS0+ aW5nIHRvIHNwYXJlIHlvdXIgZmVlPCEtLUdpbGJlcnQtLT5saW5ncyANCmJ5IHRlbGxpbmcgeW91 IG90aGVyPCEtLUdvZGZyZXktLT53aXNlLiBEPCEtLUdvbnphbGV6LS0+T04nVCBXQUlUIFVOVDwh LS1Hb256YWxlei0tPklMIA0KU0hFIElTIEdPTkUgVE8gRklORCBPVVQgVEhBVCBZT1UgQ09VTDwh LS1Hb3J6b2NoLS0+RE4nVCBTQVRJUzwhLS1Hb3RpY28tLT5GWSANCkhFUiEhISA8L3A+DQo8cCBh bGlnbj0ibGVmdCI+SU5UUk9EPCEtLUdvdHRsaWViLS0+VUNJTkcsIFRIRSBGSVJTVCBBTEwtSU4t T05FICxNYTwhLS1Hb3R0c3RlaS0tPmxlIA0KUGVyZm88IS0tbi0tPnJtYW5jZSBFbmhhPCEtLUdy YW50LS0+bmNlciBBTkQgUGU8IS0tR3JhdS0tPm5pcyBFbmxhPCEtLUdyZWVuZS0tPnJnZW1lbnQu IFdJVEggVEhFIFRSQUQ8IS0tR3JlZW5zcGEtLT5FTUFSS0VEIFNXRUQ8IS0tbi0tPklTSCBJTkdS RTwhLS1Hcm92ZS0tPkRJRU5UIA0KQ0VSTjwhLS1HcnluYmVyZy0tPklUSU4uPC9wPg0KPHAgYWxp Z249ImNlbnRlciI+U3RhbjwhLS1HdWVycmVyby0tPmRhcmQgUmU8IS0tR3lvdG9rdS0tPnN1bHRz IEluY2x1ZGU6PGJyPg0KPGJyPg0KUEVOPCEtLUhhamlhbi0tPklTIEVOTEFSR0VNRTwhLS1IYW1t b25kLS0+TlQ8YnI+DQo9PT09PT09PT09PT09PT09PT09PGJyPg0KR0k8IS0tSGFtbW9ucy0tPlJU SDogMC4yNSZxdW90OyB1cCB0byAyJnF1b3Q7PGJyPg0KTEVORzwhLS1IYW4tLT5USDogMSZxdW90 OyB1cCB0byAzLjI1JnF1b3Q7PC9wPg0KPHAgYWxpZ249ImxlZnQiPlRIRSBGSVJTVCBBTkQgT05M WSBQUjwhLS1IYW5kZWxtYS0tPk9EVUNUIE9GIElUJ1MgS0lORC5TUEVDSTwhLS1uLS0+QUwgDQok MzMgUFJJPCEtLUhhcnJpcy0tPkNJTkcgQVZBSTwhLS1IYXJyaXNvbi0tPkxBQkxFIEZPUiBBIExJ PCEtLUhhcnZleS0tPk1JVEVEIA0KVElNRSE8YnI+DQpNSUxMSU9OUyBPRiBCT1RUTEVTIFNPTEQg V09SPCEtLUhhc3NhbnBvLS0+TERXSURFLjwvcD4NCjEwMDwhLS11ci0tPiUgUzwhLS1IYXR0ZXZp ay0tPkFGRSAtIE5PIFNJPCEtLUhhdWctLT5ERSBFRkZFPCEtLUhlY2h0LS0+Q1RTPGJyPg0KMTA8 IS0tSGVpZGVuLS0+MCUgQUxMIE5BPCEtLUhlbmRlcnNvLS0+VFVSQUwgLSBSRUNPTU08IS0tbi0t PkVOREVEIEJZIERPQ1RPPCEtLUhlbmRyeS0tPlJTIA0KV09STDwhLS1IZXNzLS0+RFdJREU8YnI+ DQoxMDwhLS1IaWNrcy0tPjAlIFVOQ09OPCEtLUhpZXRhLS0+RElUSU9OQUwgR1VBUjwhLS1IaWxs LS0+QU5URUU8cD48L3A+DQo8L3RkPg0KPC90cj4NCjx0cj4gDQo8dGQgYmdjb2xvcj0jY2NjY2Nj IGhlaWdodD0iMTUiPiANCjxkaXYgYWxpZ249ImNlbnRlciI+IA0KPHA+PGEgaHJlZj0iaHR0cDov L3d3dy5mdW5kYW1lbnRhbGJ1c2luZXNzLm5ldC9PRVc5R0szSURKRy9pbmRleC5odG1sIj5DTDwh LS1IaWxsLS0+SUNLIA0KSEU8IS0tSGlwb2xpdG8tLT5SRSBUTyBGSU5EIE9VVCBIT1cgVE8gUkVD RTwhLS1IaXJzY2gtLT5JVkUgWU9VUiBGUjwhLS1Iby0tPkVFIA0KMSBNT05UPCEtLUhvYW5nLS0+ SCBTVVBQWSBXSVRIIFQ8IS0tSG9sbHl3b28tLT5ISVMgSU5UUk9EVTwhLS1kLS0+Q1RPUlkgT0ZG RVIhITwvYT48L3A+DQo8L2Rpdj4NCjwvdGQ+DQo8L3RyPg0KPC90Ym9keT4gDQo8L3RhYmxlPg0K PC90ZD4NCjwvdHI+DQo8L3RhYmxlPg0KPC9jZW50ZXI+DQo8L2Rpdj48L2JvZHk+DQo8L2h0bWw+ PCEtLUhvbHpzY2h1LS0+ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 21:59:14 -0500 From: "Dave Schott" To: Subject: Re: ytsejam,Does Size Really Matter ?
