The emotional build up all through the song is amazing. Strange thing is it was the song I disliked the most on my first listen and now it's far from last !! It's one of those brilliantly composed songs that have the knack to grow on you. I wonder why they didn't play it live? Or did they play it, and I didn't hear about it? Mark PS - Hey Graham (Boyle) - how would you describe Glen Benton's (from Deicide) vocals? He growls and shrieks at times. Also, how would you rate him as compared to some others you like? Thanks for any reply you give. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jan 2003 09:12:54 -0400 From: "Alexis Ramos" To: Subject: RE: Disappear Message-ID: I agree with those who think Disappear is an awesome song. I love its dark mood, its time changes despite the fact that it's a slow "ballad" type song, its lyrics and the melodies. I think it's a perfect song. And I really don't think that Jordan ever wanted or needed to sound like Kevin. Why would he feel the need to do that? He's an awesome keyboardist with his own peculiar style who's not under anybody's shadow, IMO. The song does have a Kevin feel, but I really don't think it came about as an effort to imitate his sound. Alexis ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jan 2003 09:49:00 -0500 From: "Carlos A. There are MP3s of two of their songs here http://musica.mustdie.ru/en/band/amorphis/505/ "Better Unborn" has a short growling (aka "Cookie Monster") section at the beginning, but the rest of the song is clean. "Against Windows" has a bit more growling in it. I couldn't stand cookie monster vocals until someone sent me some Amorphis in one the Ytsejam tape trades of years past. If you're wanting to test the water before jumping into the deep end, Amorphis might make a good starting point. Hope this helps. -B ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jan 2003 10:54:42 -0500 From: Gary M Gettier To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: Vocal Styles Message-ID: <011e01c2be40$c04384f0$143a1bac@ACAB2K10> --Boundary_(ID_L3w5fw7r/bETCHsh7N2rqg) Content-type: text/plain; charset=Windows-1252 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT _Always..._ by The Gathering changed it all for me. Before that, I could not tolerate the vocal style. I'm still very particular about what growls I like and don't like though. This vocal style is used ad nauseum. Its out of control. It's a sci-fi film-noir with beautiful cinematography and good tension in the plot. The premise is very strange, hence the 'noir', but I really enjoyed it. I've seen it a couple times now and I caught quite a few things that I missed the first time through. It's one of the best 'non-standard' sci-fi movies of the 90s.
