They sounded pretty good, actually, but they definitely > didn't have a laid-back approach to staging or production! :( Howdy Paul...funny that you mention disco biscuits...they've been my favorite band for the last 5+ years. that show that ozrics opened at the georgia theater (11/3/00) was in a period right before the band broke up for 6 months (a month later) and that fall tour was notorious for the band getting into fights during soundchecks, etc. they normally dont have any opening bands, and for two bands with such huge productions to be sharing the bill...on top of the strained relationships of the band members...i can understand how they could have come off as jerks. i'm pretty good friends with the band, and they're all nice guys. give them another chance, especially if you liked them musically. they usually tear it up in the south. dream theater fans would LOVE the song "save the robots". you can download mp3's (and soon shns) for FREE of one of their best shows of this year, 10/5/02 haymaker festival in virginia. other proggy disco biscuits songs (all with odd time signatures too) are housedogpartyfavor, spectacle, the tunnel, basis for a day, the very moon, bazaar escape, hot air balloon, chemical warfare brigade, they have tons of amazing originals. they also do a mean cover of zappa's "pygmy twylyte". go to http://www.discobiscuits.com and go to audio/visual downloads. it's there for free in mp3, both sets. .shn files (losslessly compressed wavs) should be available any day. save the robots starts the 2nd set. phenomenal prog-metal with two huge improvisational jams. just that song is over 20min long. then the very moon > helicopters > very moon > shem-rahboo > helicopters is some of THE BEST improv jamming you will ever hear. phenomenal. that's almost an hour of nonstop virtuoso playing... later, bcox ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Jan 2003 13:28:40 -0800 (PST) From: Partha Mukhopadhyay To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: actually.... Message-ID: that last crack was a joke, mostly....I've got nothing against jam bands....maybe against their fans who insist that their fave band is THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD, but that's ok, they probably feel the same way about me :) just to change the topic 180 degrees musically, how much coverage does the (canadian based, i guess) MuchMusic cable station have in the US? I'm asking because there's a metal show on there called Uranium that plays stuff like In Flames, Killswitch Engage, etc, that I haven't seen on MTV or VH1, and pretty much approximates what I've heard about the late lamented headbanger's ball (didn't have cable until after that went off the air). just curious..... __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I think jam bands suck, and always will. And I have heard a good bit of Phish, on TV and on through people blaring it at jazzfest. \m/ THRASH OR DIE \m/ You cant make a tru metalhead open to stuff like Phish, it aint gonna happen. Now that you mention it, you're right (on the show, either Ved or Jay meet that description). I'd never have known the show -- or even the cable channel -- existed, but the production co. got in touch with us (www.dragoncon.org) about possibly co-hosting their first US touring appearance. The show has a workable sci-fi premise that could happen tomorrow, so it's not as odd as it might seem. I watched a couple of episodes and darned if I didn't start caring about the characters. :) It's much more adult-themed (major character deaths, etc.) than any US-made teenagers' show could ever be. Now to introduce them to the evils of mmmmmmmetal. \m/ :) NP: Council of the Fallen, Revealing Damnation (cheap promo CD!) -- +--- Paul W. Message-ID: MuchMusic is a channel on Satellite (DirecTV, Dish Network, etc) also, and it's GREAT. The heavy bands they play are great for exposure. And they have an interview show that features a different band each show that is choice. It's right up there next to VH1-Classic, which is awesome as well.
