I know there's still quite a few people reading this, but for some reason there hasn't been much motivation to write. I think it might be that all of us here at the jam are getting older, and our desire to write all the crap that comes to our head has started to mellow down. The jam had its moments, but on average it wasn't a good year in terms of discussion and amounts of posts. Let's hope 2003 brings new life to what was before the place to be for Dream Theater related stuff. - As far as releases, 2002 was definitely a great year. Here's a list of all the worthwhile releases for me this year (I'll try to put the first few in order, but it's going to be hard to rank them after that): Dream Theater - 6DOIT Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane Planet X - Moonbabies Explorer's Club - Raising the Mammoth Symphony X - The Odyssey Spock's Beard - Snow Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera All That I Bleed - Dying to Remember Angra - Hunters and Prey Rhapsody - Power of the Dragonflame Luca Turilli - Prophet of the Last Eclipse Avantasia II Shaman - Ritual Planet X - Live from Oz Spock's Beard DVD Steve Morse Band - Split Decision Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness Arjen Anthony Lucassen's Star One - Space Metal Those are all I can remember right now that I have enjoyed thoroughly this year. There have to be more, but this is a very good example of how good this year was in terms of quality releases. - The album that made the biggest progress for me this year definitely has to be Explorer's Club - Raising the Mammoth. At first listen I was a bit disappointed, but this album just kept growing on me exponentially. The melodies just started sticking in my head like glue, especially the line "In my experience..." Terry Bozzio's drumming is incredible, a masterful display of how loose and versatile a drummer can be. His drumming on this album is worth the price of the disc alone. The beginning of the album is glorious music. The whole album just kept getting stronger all the time, and still is. - Virgil Donati just kicked my ass this year. Moonbabies and Live from Oz had awesome performances by him, and he showed that he's one of the most talented drummers out there. His polyrhythmic abilities are insane. Alright, I have to go. Besides, if that were the case, then everyone who goes to DT.net, all of the other band members websites, and all the foreign language websites should all have been notified so that they could go there too - none of them did. Understand that it was a gift to those who regularly visit there. If you don't visit, you don't get the gift - simple as that. However, I'm sure that plenty of people have downloaded it, so all you have to do is ask around a bit and you'll find it. I do have a copy of it, but I have no means of hosting it anywhere, and all I have is a 56K connection, so I'm not gonna have the time to upload it to someone else's server. FWIW, I don't mean to take away from the value of the 'Jam (it is important or I wouldn't still be subscribed), but most of the info ends up appearing on MP.com and/or DT.net before it shows up anywhere else. And the discussions on there are (many times) similar to what you will see here - the nice thing is that you can pick and chose which threads to read and what not to, so you can avoid reading all the extra stuff you have no interest in. Anyway, don't complain - remember that Mike's gonna provide perks to those on his site, simply because that's his "home" *and* he's the only one who really gets involved with providing bonus stuff to the fans. If you want the perks right away, start visiting MP.com regularly. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until it starts to circulate. Anyway, I apologize for the lack of 'relevant' content in my earlier posting, but after more than a year of being unable to post to this list, I had just subscribed again under a different email address and seen my first mail disappear once again into the ytse-ether. That being the case I was in no frame of mind to compose a gem of shakespearian brilliance as a further test. I understand that in days gone by, such a post would have awoken the Ytse-banshees, who would have attempted to scare me into un-subscription. [Flaming newbies to the list being their main sport]. Surely you cannot fail to have seen the 'hello' style '@home with Mr Akerfeldt' feature which appeared only a few weeks ago in the famed pages of our nations most popular music publication - Kerrapp! ... or their appearance in Metal Hammer ... or their earlier appearance in the summer 'Prog special' edition of Terrorizer or the hour long special on the band and Deliverance which aired on the melodic-death friendly 'sex to 9' show (www.sexto9.com) on the nations only national metal radio station - totalrock (www.totalrock.com), or the fact that the band have indeed visited our oft neglected shores thrice in little more than 12 lunar months. Open your eyes Mr Gelberg! :-) Indeed they are now so trendy, that Kerrapp dragged them over from Sweden a few weeks ago to play a gig as part of the 'K-fest', when Mikael and his band mates would probably have preferred to have been tucked up in bed, dosed up to the eyeballs with cough medicine. Myself and several other lurkers on this list were present at the gig, though I still can't call myself a 'fan' of the band. However, fear not, for they will return in March for a nation-wide tour (whatever that means these days). Porcupine Tree will also be touring the UK in March - I wonder if the two might appear together? > From: Graham Borland > To: ytsejam@torchsong.com > Subject: Re: wow > >"Carlos A. I knew I could rely on you to reply to this Graham :-) Damn Forums are more cliquey than even the most fashionable mailing lists! What was it about 'fiddling while Rome burned'? The clear facts are that this list has received zip by way of maintenance in the last couple of years. Skadz has ignored any mails I've sent him. I can understand he's a 'cool' guy to those who know him, but as far as I'm concerned he's done bugger all to the list since he eventually fitted those spam filters and he's just about the most uncommunicative list-admin I've ever known. Just check out the subscription confirmation mail - it hasn't changed from the days pre-SFAM when there was a news blockout on the album. Right, now that I've got that little lot off my chest, I've off to bed. Happy New Year folks!
