Phish sucks so bad. > Don't even get me started on > the Grateful Dead. No one wants to hear one chord 42 minute jams. I don't know of any phish songs that are only one chord or 42 min for that matter. > And the majority of the people who go to their shows > are what I call "HIPPIE-CRITES" (as in hypocrites) wow, thats pretty clever..Thats like a play on words, right? > because being a hippie was a movement in political and > somewhat musical history. But these people who go to their shows all dress > the same and act the same and go totally against the idea of individuality. Thats weird, I figured that the people that went to their shows, wanted to listen to their music and weren't really concerned with how they dress. > And most of these people are so closed-minded So closed minded that they enjoy music not force fed to them through the radio or MTV? > But sometimes you have to realize that there are so many people in > this world who try to be individuals that they end up 'becoming' what in > many minds is a sterotype. So your saying, people who try to be different become the same? Can you put down the joint before you start typing please. . . Why not just focus on discussing the actual music instead of the people who listen to it. > And jam rock isn't the road to go down. Thanks for the warning! Any other types of music I shouldn't try to listen to? I want to make sure all the music I listen to is personally approved by you. > From: Sarah Hallum > Subject: RE: re: PHISH > > And here I am thinking that there are lots of different types of music out > there because there are lots of people with wildly different tastes. Where the hell did you get a crazy idea like that? :) > From: "Dominic H. Kallas" > > I realise that hating "stoner hippie rock" is indicative of your personal > taste of music, but can't you admit that members of Phish and even the > Grateful Dead possess a high degree of talent? How the hell would Chris know? He doesn't listen to that type of music. Its easier to just say that the music sucks instead of actually listening. If you don't like a certain type of music, thats fine. You can even discuss why you don't care for it, but to stereotype people based on the music they listen to and to tell people that "jam rock isn't the road to go down" is just plain stupid. Let people decide for themselves. For christ's sake....you even quote Winger in your .sig THAT says volumes. ~YtseJim ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Oct 2002 20:58:58 -0700 (PDT) From: Partha Mukhopadhyay To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: woohoo! They know not what they do, so one can't help but feel a little pity for them.... Of course, since that class of people listening to *other* music happens to include myself, I think I'm drowning in existenstial debt. And since I have no idea wtf that means, I think I'll go to bed now.....g'nite! Partha __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Y! Message-ID: Friends! I come bearing great news! But first, a bit of a background... I love Opeth. Period. It started by a kindly gentleman who sent me a mix-tape from the good ol' ytsejam yesteryears. It had Blind Guardian, Opeth, The Gathering, Dark Tranquillity and a whole slew of wonderful bands I'd never heard before. Heavy and incredibly musical! Anyway, if this sounds like your tape you sent to me, I owe my present musical tastes (practially) to that mix-tape. Thank you, whoever you are!!! But I digress. I heard a track from Morningrise and it really grew on me. It taught me not to be afraid of the growling and realize that there's soooooo much more than that. The growling is only for the really aggressive parts (which are under 50% of the time). The rest is just beautiful mountainous soundscapes of wonder and sorrow. I immediately went out and bought Still Life because it was getting such good reviews. Love at first listen! I then picked up My Arms, Your Hease and loved it as well! I got Blackwater Park THE DAY it came out and I haven't looked back. But here's my thing. Ya know how wonderfully artful bands like this often begin with ugly, unpolished roots? There are TONS of them out there, and I don't think I have to name them for you. Anyway, I figured that Opeth would be a PRIME candidate for that sort of history, so I just kind of figured that Morningrise and Orchid were those sorts of "growing pains" albums and I avoided buying them. But for some reason, I just picked them up. ...and fans? Um... I got some news for you... THEY'RE EVEN BETTER!!!
