YTSEJAM Digest 6319 Today's Topics: 1) Anybody there? by "Alexis Ramos" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 20 Sep 2002 09:21:11 -0400 From: "Alexis Ramos" To: Subject: Anybody there? Message-ID: Well, it seems like the jam has fallen asleep. Is there still anybody out there? Here's some stuff to try to stir it up: I recently got Spock's Beard's new album Snow, and I think it's quite good. But I have to disagree about it being Spock's best album so far. I still like The Kindness of Strangers the most, and perhaps V is in second place. I think there's just too many slow songs on this new one. The story is pretty interesting. I do have a doubt about how the story ends. If you don't want to find out the ending of the story, STOP READING NOW. Alright, for those of you who are still reading, I think there's 3 different interpretations to the end of the story: 1) Snow dies and reincarnates into a new person, 2) Snow gets wasted but survives and the rebirth part is sort of a metaphor for going back to what he was before, and 3) Snow dies and the rebirth part is a metaphor for Snow moving on to another life, for getting into heaven. I really don't know which one of the interpretations to favor, so, could anybody comment on what they think about this? I also recently got the new album by Explorers Club, Raising the Mammoth, and I like it so far. I haven't heard it enough times to make a full review, but I do have some comments. I think it's not as good as the first one, which IMO is an amazing album, but it's still very good. This new one sounds a little bit more disorganized, although that perception may disappear as I keep listening to the cd. I also think Gardner should have incorporated more vocalists into the album, since it's pretty much Steve Walsh with two special guests. Also, I would have really liked it if the liner notes would have mentioned who is soloing where throughout the songs, since I have no idea of who's who. Myung does a good job as always, but he doesn't do anything spectacular or worth mentioning. Well, that's it. I hope this brings a little bit of life to the jam.....
