Although I do remember when Rush criticized the bands that put together the "Working Man" tribute album, including DT. But wouldn't it have been great if DT was asked to open the tour with an hour long set? It would have been great exposure for the band, not to mention recognizing DT as one of the best progressive bands out there right now. I think it would have been great exposure for Rush as well, recognizing the new sound of progressive rock and crediting the genre that made them so big. Why is it always the fans that come up with the best ideas? Somehow, I think Rush wants to run from the progressive label. Look at the bands that did open for them since counterparts. IN the 80s, they had Max Webster. IN the early 90s, they had MR. Bigg. Then, on the counterparts tour, they had CandleBox. I think Rush wants to be associated more with the alternative scene these days than anything else. Look at who they got to produce their album. The guy who did Hole and Marilyn Manson. I don't see Terry Brown, Kevin Sherley, or any of the others doing progressive stuff. Hell, how much of their old 70s stuff do they even play anymore, anyway? They did 2112 on their last tour, yes. But to me, 2112 is more along the lines of hard rock than progressive, the only thing that makes 2112 prog is the length of the song. There are really no odd time sigs in that one, no keyboards, nothing that makes 2112 stand out loke a close to the edge. hell, you can feasibly separate 2112 into separate songs, try to do that with Close to the Edge and you may get a headache. So, I don't think you'll be seeing Rush acknowledge prog that much. Hell, I remember reading in an interview that Geddy hates Xanadu, and that is a prog song if I ever heard it. Why do you think they don't play the whole thing? I think they honor their past, but I don't think you'll be seeing much in the way of serious prog from them, since they want to stay with the trend. Just my opinion, and I still love the band, but they stopped doing prog around 1983 or so. To me, the Camera Eye was the last prog song they did. While SubDivisions is a great tune and very odd time based, I don't see it really as the same kind of prog that Xanadu, The Trees, La Villa, and The camera Eye are. Only my opinion, though. If somebody wants to disagree, that's fine. At 01:27 AM 4/23/2002, you wrote: >It's too bad that Dream Theater couldn't have toured with Rush this >summer!
