The messages I send to the list never seem to make it through. I'll try this one... Joined the original ytsejam list (before ax.com? before that?) when it was in the 20s or 30s, ~1993. Read and participated quite actively as 'email_address_removed' until sometime in '95, when I moved out of state and took a new job. Didn't have time to participate much in the list after ~'96, though I remember traveling to Seattle with a guy on the list that worked at intc. Met Kirby last year at the SFAM show in SFO (I was spotted by my ax.com ytsejam sweatshirt> and she informed me that the list was pretty much defunct, which put a shadow in my heart.... so I resubscribed, and have been seeing this list slowly come back to life. Message-ID: <003c01c1df54$c06b7800$message_id_removed> Well, everyone else under the sun has de-lurked, so I suppose I'll take my turn. Been here since the mid-1000's, I suppose... I recall the mad rush to be in 'jam 2000, followed quickly by the mad Rush to be in 'jam 2112, but I don't recall a similar rush for 1000, so I must not be that old. :-) I've met Kirby, and Jax, and Kizer, and Pellaz, and Al the ProGtologist, and Brian Hayden, and Id, and Smak, and two Glenn's, and probably a lot of people I'm forgetting, many of whom probably aren't on the list anymore. I've spent way too much money on CDs, partly due to this mailing list, but more due to ytseradio. I've DJ'ed there off and on for two years (off, currently, because my computer is falling apart at the seams... I'll be back when I get a new one.) Not being a musician myself, a lot of the heavy conversations around here are a bit beyond me, but it's worth hanging out to hear about that next great band... Green Carnation being the last one I bought on a 'jam recommendation. Good stuff, that. Maybe the conversation will keep up, and my next post won't also be the semi-annual "hey, old folks!" post. :-) --Jay "wonders what became of the 'EOJ'" Omega --NP: Tristania - World of Glass ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Apr 2002 16:43:19 -0700 (PDT) From: Alexis Ramos To: ytsejam Subject: new Pain of Salvation, Oldtimers Message-ID: Hello! First, I'd like to comment briefly on the new cd by POS, Remedy Lane. I've only heard it like 2 or 3 times, but I'm already loving it. I think it's better than The Perfect Element pt. 1, since it seems to be more aggressive and more kickass. TPE pt.1 is very good, but Remedy Lane is just a little bit more chaotic and upbeat, heading in the Entropia direction. Once again POS create music that you can't compare with any other band around, and music that sounds as fresh as it can be, even when comparing it to everything they've already done. Very few bands can achieve this freshness (DT being one of them), so you can be sure that POS is something special. Get Remedy Lane, you won't regret it. Also, talking about oldtimers, I've been on this list since I think 1993. I subscribed when there were still a few copies of the original Subconscious left (Mike Bahr's first cd), so I managed to get a hold of one. I've learned a lot about other bands and about DT through this list, so it's been sad to see it head downhill. I hope we can resurrect it and keep it strong. I wonder how many people would sign a petition like the ACOS one if it was done again through the ytsejam... Alexis __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Good stuff, that. I recently heard green carnation on digital radio, and yes, it's good stuff. As an aside the whole digital (satellite/cable/xm) radio thing that's exploding now is a really weird nostalgia trip for me in a way... back when I was about fifteen, my dad was working in the cable tv industry. A minneapolis company was one of the first to roll out something called DMX, or Digital Music Express. He got this for me for my fifteenth birthday... it was a cable converter box that send output to your stereo, and had a remote with an LCD screen on it that would give you all relevant track info. Artist, album, label, year, songwriting credit, etc etc. This turned me onto a lot of good music on the metal and rock stations, including DT. I'd heard Pull me Under on rock radio and liked it, but didn't think much of them until I started hearing "Caught in a web" on this cable thing. I filled at least 100 cassette tapes back in the day with songs recorded from that. Another aside... Jay, you may not be a musician, but you're always one of the best posters on audio topics. -brian ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Apr 2002 17:21:48 -0700 From: "Wes Foll" To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: old timer shiznit Message-ID: Heyaz, so I missed a discussion about my old Anthrax signature file.
