No, they are a new lineup, and they haven't recorded yet, The band name is Palmer, i think. > >guy), maybe 35. But i didn't see his wild, modern playing coming! The guitar was doing some some steady 8'ths notes in the background, in crescendo......then he joined the bass with some upper chords imitaing the voices at full volume. Evil-sounding stuff! So what do I have to type ? Well for starters I dig the shit out of 6DoiT. I personally think DT continue to evolve as time goes by which is probably the best way to keep from becoming stale, I mean come on people our FB is cranking out serious material, in relatively short amounts of time, which if you consider the space between Awake , CoS , and SFAM , that's a good thing. As far as I care I think the vocal melodies are getting better. Am I wrong in assuming that the backing vocals of the past were mostly LaBrie overdubs and now Portnoy and Petrucci are doing more and more, thus the difference. I also thought the very beginning of the album with the white noise was cool. The fact that this is yet another concept album really turns me on. As far as DT sounding like other bands, TOOL and Peter Gabriel in particular, I think it would be pretty hard to find albums of this quality with this amount of variant moods, that didn't have moments of familiarity. I hear DT's music on other peoples albums I hear relative riffs in video game commercials too, but I enjoy the hell out of a song that can call up a mood within me that relates to the story being told. If Salisbury Hill becomes Solitary Shell, and I can relate the two references to better understand the mood then I say well played. And I agree with the way Lyric summed up the album. Very thoughtful. Struck a chord with me anyway. Oh well enough from me I guess. The easiest Magic to perform is to make someone smile. Unfortunately Discouragement is the trick more often played. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002 00:29:16 +0000 From: "charles.farrell" To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Carl Palmer/ Shaun Baxter Jazz metal shredder Message-ID: mmhhh - saw this trio play last summer - and by the sound of things the setlist hasn't changed. ELP were the first prog band i ever heard (back in 72 or something) and themr early stuff is still amongst myfavourite music. Personally I'm not a guitarist and I always adored Keith Emerson's keyboard playing, so hearing ELP material played without Keyboards didn't sit well with me. I can understand Carl wanting to try something different, but personally I didn't think it worked. Maybe Shaun Baxter (who released that 'Jazz metal' disk quite a few years ago), has improved, cos I have to say that I absolutely hated his playing and the way he massacred my favourite ELP tunes. However you obviously enjoyed it. During the concert I saw Carl explained that Shaun was a teacher at the 'London Guitar Institute' or something. Apparently they're using parts of ACOS, maybe others, as music for some of the fill spots between events. - Pat -- blah blah blah.... __________________________________________________________________ Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas. Message-ID: <000c01c1b2a1$20f8a750$1eabf7a5@jonin> I was shocked tonight to hear them playing DT music at the olympics tonight on TV.They played pieces of A Change Of Seasons as they were describing the downhill event.I thought that was pretty cool.Never expected to hear DT on primetime TV. :) Eric ---YTSEJAM FILTER: Rest of message skipped because of attachment ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 6108 ************************** === Contributions to ytsejam: ytsejam@torchsong.com === === Send requests to: ytsejam-request@torchsong.com === === Brought by the ghost of ytsejam@arastar.coms past === === Reach the owner of this list at: ytsejam-owner@torchsong.com ===
