Is anyone else pissed that there are no songs penned by John Myung on this album? Myung and Moore were always the best song writers. Seems to be a lot more religious overtones on this album than there has been in the past. It may just be the nature of the content or I may be drunk. James actually has two songs on this disc?!?! I think that is a record for him. The new album gets four and a half devil horns out of five \m/ \m/ \m/ \m/ \m !!! Message-ID: <<6 Degrees - Wow. Wow. That's about all I can think of. It starts off sounding like a movie soundtrack with overture - like no other prog I've ever heard, really. The lyrics are a bit stronger here, I feel. It takes you through some quite heavy parts, and then slows down, then bursts into one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard (Solitary Shell!!! Yes!). I had chills through half of it. Here's the new orchestral sound that must have Jordan layering at least 8 tracks in some places. Very very cool, even though I imagine he'll have to automate a lot of that live..>> I finally noticed someone else had the same reaction I did to "Solitary Shell". This is destined to be my favorite DT song. It is absolutely perfect. The chorus just blows me away everytime I hear it. I do like the edit version on the advance fan club CD slightly better as it lets the song breathe by itself. It's a great high point of the 42 minute epic as well. This song and "Misunderstood" need to be the singles from this release. I think both SHOULD do well...if there is a God. The local scene is thriving here at the moment, metal in general is as popular as ever and who better to support DT than our very own Vanishing Point!!! Let's go for it!! What do we have to lose?? [Graham - the downunder one - wrote] Unless there is a new promoter on the scene it's a waste of time. We did the same thing a couple years back and no interest, they even spelt DT's name wrong when they replied to the petition :( --------------- Did you see that Mike signed the petition too? :) I think they have a better chance this time around, at least from what I have heard from Gary, the lunatic that really wants them there. :) You can sign the petition even if you don't live in Australia. So everyone, go sign it www.ozdt.com and help the fellow jammers! 6 Do It --- it ROCKS! I was very positively surprised... yet again... How can those guys keep on making stuff like this? *shakes her head* My only problem is with the lyrics -- but then again, lyrics have never been *that* important for me in Dream Theater... Bummer that they skipped Finland this time around... Sure hope that they will come here on the 2nd leg... Tanja -- who can't even remember the last time she posted here... It's exactly the same thing, except for the fact that the other guys are playing on it as well. The thing that I love the most about that part is that we get the chance to listen to Portnoy play some jazz music!!! I think that's the first time I've heard him play jazz, and he sounds awesome. Even though I consider Mike to be an amazing drummer, I've always considered that he needs to jazz things up a little bit every now and then, to show some more looseness and syncopation (sp?) in his playing. So this part of Solitary Shell is definitely a step in the right direction. Great going Mike!!! Alexis __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? He wrote some of their best lyrical material by far, and his songwriting was incredible. Myung is an excellent lyricist too, too bad he didn't write anything for this album. His lyrics on SfaM were probably the best on that release out of all the others. Any bets on when Rudess writes his first song for DT? :-P - Ilia. http://www.44lbs.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Great stuff seeking new owners in Yahoo!
