Message-ID: I just wanted to say that I don't consider Caught in a New Millenium to be remaking a song. I would consider it a medley, although a very weird one. And Metropolis Pt. 1 stayed exactly the same as before. What they do when James talks is something they've done quite a lot, even before Jordan joined DT. I guess they haven't had a lot of time to rework some of the old stuff; they've probably been very busy with all the other songwriting. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Message-ID: There are still tickets left for Jordan's benefit concert this Monday in Nyack! We have heard from some Dream Theater fans that they want to come to the show and help out the American Red Cross, but the price is too high for them to afford. So, we have decided to instruct the box office to lower the ticket price to $XX for anyone who says the code: "DTF." The box office number is 845-358-6333. It is going to be a real "unplugged" Jordan-type evening, with him playing a Steinway concert grand, courtesy of Steinway Hall in NY. Jordan says, "I look forward to meeting people after the show!" Thank you to everyone who is helping out! Firstly, of course - I was just generally shocked to see a DT album prominently featured in a Best Buy ad, and secondly because of the recall of the disc! As for seeing the add, I think they're adds are created a while before they are sent out so that would be the reason the CD is still in the add. I wouldn't be suprised if there was a "sorry" message in the actual store because of the add listing something they don't have pat >- Joe D. > > > -- blah blah blah.... __________________________________________________________________ Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas. Derek too! Message-ID: <00ff01c143fe$de6994a0$message_id_removed.mx> Ok, so Weewie J Malmsteen is a little overweighted (he must weight twice what he weighted in his Live in Leningrad video, he's a fuckin' Jabba relative now!), and he has fewer hair than before, but i still wanted to see the swedish guitar master who made a profound impression on me when i first heard him in 1994. The fact that Derek Sherinian is in his band made the concert more appealing. I wanted to hunt his autograph too, so i brought my FII tourbook with me, just in case i had some luck. So Yngwie started wanking away as usual, and there was no stopping. I'm very grateful to see one of his shows, because there are probably many more people who like him more than me and haven't gotten a chance of seeing him. But, he plays more with the intrument than actually playing the damn thing! Spinning it around his neck, playing it with his teeth, butt, palm hands......he made an awful lot of noise. Then, there is his annoying delay tricks he has been doing like, forever. He "shredded" his songs into pieces indeed. The songs i knew, were barely recognizable, as he LOVES to improvise....or he just doesn't rehearse, or just winged the songs in the studio and never bothered learning them. Of course, with songs like Blak Star, you get the theme intact (not THAT intact) but the rest is improvisation on the key of the song. Again, full of noises because his guitar spinnings, etc. More show and less musicianship. You dont remember... was about the only song that was played pretty good, but still..... Derek was having lots of troubles with his gear apparently, 'cause he was repeatedly shouting at the roadie and not having a very good time. His tradeoffs with Pengwie were not that good, and, as much as i like his keyboard sounds, they did not go very well with that music. During his keyboard solo he included the whole intro of LitS. Nothing wrong with that i say...i enjoyed it. Then, after the show, he came out for a little time with the fans, and even though i wasn't in front of them all, the moment he saw the FII tourbook, he took it. He showed it to a girl (he looked like a manager or something like that), then signed it and gave it back to me. I saw him with DT in 1998, and when he saw the fans outside, he turned his back on us, unlike Portnoy and Labrie, who actually got off the bus after they had already departed to sign and take photos. Well, i got Derek's autograph and was happy enough not to try to hunt his majesty Y. Johann M. the next morning. Derek too! Message-ID: I met Derek and the rest of Planet X before before their show in Sydney in April, during an in store appearance. He was very friendly indeed, forthcoming in putting his hand out for me to shake and seemed very humbled by the aussie fans appreciation of him coming out to play for us. He wore jeans and black t-shirt, so maybe the clothes and lamps was just all an image think he went through when he was with DT. This totally changed my opinion of him, which was based soley on what I've read about him here and on elsewhere on the net. Kurt I still haven't put the PX Sydney show on CDR that I recorded on MD.... -- Best regards, Graham mailto:email_address_removed.au ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 5971 ************************** === Contributions to ytsejam: ytsejam@torchsong.com === === Send requests to: ytsejam-request@torchsong.com === === Brought by the ghost of ytsejam@arastar.coms past === === Reach the owner of this list at: ytsejam-owner@torchsong.com ===
