It's actually a good thing that he didn't do it, because the Red Cross doesn't allow people to collect donations without their written permission first. I don't know if it would translate to this, but if he said in the auction that the profits from the CD would be donated to the Red Cross, that might be construed as raising funds for the Red Cross without permission, which would violate their policy. > eBay is no longer accepting auction for LSFNY and is wiping out those > that are still running. Of > course, that was a fake bid to make sure that nobody won the auction. I think it's good that they're not allowing it. They should have been paying attention closer anyway, bsince they wouldn't allow WTC-related stuff to be sold, and this is most definitely WTC-related. ------------------------------------------------- Andrew Coutermarsh email_address_removed http://cout.dhs.org/ ------------------------------------------------- "It isn't pollution that's harming the environ- ment. As for pulling the cd in the first place, I don't see the point. Sure, there's a lot of emotion right now, and everyone wants to do something "symbolic" in sympathy and support. But is DT or the record company being accused of making money on the tragedy? If they are being accused, then that is total bullshit and hypocracy. I have seen the images of the planes colliding and the burning towers BILLIONS of times now. It's been on tv over and over. All the tv stations are using the burning buildings and plane collisions as background graphics for EVERYTHING. Every magazine and newspaper has thousands of images of the disaster, including on the covers. Has the media stopped making money? Is Time magazine free this week? Of course not. They've been making money for a week now on this tragedy. And Dream Theater has to recall a disc with a cover that has nothing to do with the tragedy? Give me a break. __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? But to get pissed at people on eBay??? What is there to "get" ? If someone saw this as a profit opportunity, to sell a cd cover that is going to be rare, then that shows you what the priority is for that person. Not the fact that so many people were killed, and not the fact that so many more _will_ die as a result of last Tuesday, but the fact that "Hey, now I can get a couple of these and sell them for twice what I paid." That is a shitty person. I don't _care_ if it's a capitalist society. These people aren't providing a service. They're fucking profiting on other peoples' tragedy. It's just wrong. > From: "TREVOR HOIT" > Did you not get one Ptacek? :) > If you did, are you destroying it and buying the reissue? Heheh I'm not sure if you were trying to "catch" me in something or whatever, but I didn't buy the disc, because I woke up last Tuesday with the news report, and because honestly I was bored to tears with the DVD. If I did buy it, I would keep it, but I wouldn't showcase it and show my friends "Hey you want to see something cool?", and I wouldn't try to make money off it, and I wouldn't bring it before the band and show it off. > I did buy a bunch, but I'm selling them at my cost right now. ($30 inc tax) > to fans who couldn't get one. I understand being a psycho fan and NEEDING the disc. I was like that back when I&W came out etc. I respect selling copies for what you paid, as a service. That's really cool of you. You're not alone as someone who would be impacted negatively by seeing this album delayed. However, the second your price goes up... why not just go invest short term in a body bag manufacturer while you're at it? The profit has a source. That event on 9-11-01 is different from anything in history, for America. I have friends who lost family. I have friends who are going to be sent off to fight because of this, and this is perhaps the most uncertain war that has ever been fought. If you don't end up affected by what has happened or what will happen in the near future, trust me, you're in the minority. > I can't help if the price goes up, that's supply and demand. It's only a cd, > it's not like I'm trying to sell pieces of the WTC... Isn't it? Why would the cd be selling for more than retail? It's because of the WTC and nothing else. You can say it's because of a recall or whatever you want, dude, but the only fact here is that it all comes back to the WTC. I think it's the wrong mentality. Listen, I'm not going to spam the jam with this. I shouldn't even be replying, because I know that everyone on this list is as stubborn as I am. After I send this, I'm unsubscribing, permanently... this just isn't my group of people anymore. No offense. I am not as big a fan as I used to be. I'm not into the arguments and stuff... I don't see any news here that I haven't seen elsewhere, and basically, I'm probably just taking up space by being here. So don't worry about arguing with me... I didn't want to start a flame war. Good luck and best wishes to all of you, and may the next DT disc be their best yet. - Chris ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Sep 2001 15:21:39 -0400 From: Cyberwolf To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: DT CD on Ebay Message-ID: I agree and concur with Joe regarding the CD on Ebay. If you set the price at the list price, and it rises, incrementally to astronomical figures, sure, that is the laws of supply & demand setting their precedent. Otherwise, the poor lost souls who using opportunity to set the bar at high prices to begin with, well, they are pure greedy capitalistic cretins, and worse. I would say, don't involve yourself in a bid that goes against your personal principles and integrity. Anyhow, personally, I'm awaiting the next STUDIO release early next year, instead. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Sep 2001 14:21:38 -0500 From: "Dale Newberry" To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: LSFNY Message-ID: Hey, for anyone in the St. Louis area that would like a copy of the CD< I saw about 3-4 copies at Slacker's CDs and Games in O'Fallon, IL (just off I-64 maybe 15-20 miles form St. Louis). I picked one up and they still had a few. The music does, indeed kick ass. I've been thoroughly enjoying it, especially since I don't have the DVD (though I have seen it). I will sell them AT COST to the first first people to email me. I have 5 extra copies, all still sealed. The cost is 20.99 plus actual shipping costs. If you would like it sent regular delivery, add an additional dollar and if you would like Priority Mail add 4 dollars. If I get a quick response I "might" be able to get some more. I will not promise anything beyond the 5 I already have because the rest of the stock could be pulled from the store before I can get there to buy additonal copies but there were more on the shelves when I got them. I am not looking to make a profit but seeing as how I could still find copies when so many other 'jammers couldn't I thought I would help out as many people as I could. I will be leaving for work in a few minutes so I won't be able to respond to any emails until later this evening. I'll respond to you definitely within 24 hours, and most likely within 12. I will let you know if I still have any left and send you my mailing address at that time. I will accept cash and money orders only. If you want to look at my feedback on ebay my username is ravens-fan and the email address will match. I have been on ebay for over 3 years and I have never had either a neutral or negative feedback. Yeah, as a matter of fact, I saw Megadeth last night and Dave mentioned something about the back of the "Peace Sells...Who's Buying?" album..."We knew this shit was coming..." Certainly looks like NYC the covers. Has the media stopped making money? Is >Time magazine free this week? Of course not. Good point, but the record label would have never pulled the CD if the media hadn't picked up on it... Once DT was getting some press about the cover, they were pretty much forced into recalling it...from a PR point of view that is... Plus I am sure the guys in the band probably cringed a bit when they drew the connection to the album, released on the same day as the attacks. Suddenly, a rather innocuous album cover (that most people wouldn't have really thought about too much), because a really eerie reminder... ~Michael Kizer < email_address_removed > < ICQ # 2070538 > "Enter ivory gates through midnight skies..." ~ http://www.ivorygate.com >>> Fates Warning ~ Island In The Stream <<< >>> Dream Theater and Kevin Moore "Unofficial" Song Books <<< >>> Underground Internet Radio at: http://www.ytseradio.com <<< ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 5966 ************************** === Contributions to ytsejam: ytsejam@torchsong.com === === Send requests to: ytsejam-request@torchsong.com === === Brought by the ghost of ytsejam@arastar.coms past === === Reach the owner of this list at: ytsejam-owner@torchsong.com ===
