I'm looking for a non-mp3 sourced copy of the Orlando 3/3/00 show. I've traded for this show twice and both times I received cdrs sourced from mp3 and they suck! Any help in getting a cdr copy would be greatly appreciated. If possible, I'd like to trade for a copy. I have a small amount of DT, but tons of RUSH and YES. Email me privately and I'll send my trading list. Thanks in advance! Simply click on "Media," then click "Next" in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen until you see the 3/3/00 show listed. You can download it, but it takes a while because of the sheer bandwidth taken by it, and you'll have to burn the SHN files yourself. I must warn you, though, that there is no true non-lossy-sourced recording of this show; it was recorded from a 64kbps WMA file, which was the highest-bandwidth streaming version of the show. Therefore, it may sound like it was an MP3 source, but may not actually BE one. However, if you're hearing blips between the tracks, that's most definitely an MP3 source. ------------------------------------------------- Andrew Coutermarsh email_address_removed Lines in the Sand - http://dreamtheater.mit.edu/ ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Sep 2001 22:44:31 -0400 From: "Andrew Ashmall-Liversidge" To: Subject: RE: trade request 3/3/00 Message-ID: <000001c135b4$b1cbe680$2400a8c0@sos> This pisses me off!! 99.9% of people can't tell the difference between an mp3 source and an original. If they could then they wouldn't be trading 128kbps mp3s. Get down off your goddamn audiophilic high horses and realise that no-one else cares. If we can get a good recording of a show we're happy - we don't need to feed it through the knifflingping via the knockulator valve to appreciate the music. Looking forward to the replies.................... >< I'm compleely ignorant when it comes to the technicalities of audio, video, mp3s, kilobytes per second, whatever. I have no idea. I'm not down with that. I usually delete any e-mail that has anything to do with it. Call me stupid. And, as you pointed out, I'm interested in the music, not finding the highest sound quality, source, whatever. Again, I have no idea. HOWEVER...I can tell the difference between an MP3 source and an original from a million miles away. It's not difficult. It's usually very noticeable. So your 99.9% - no matter how much of an exagerration - was way, way off. Again, I don't usually care, because it's the music, not the sound quality, that matters. However, sometimes I do care. I have a copy of Mind Control where the MP3 distortion (I'm sure I'm using the wrong words here) is atrocious. That swooshy, watery sound completely ruins it and renders it unlistenable. What was my point? Most of the time I don't care when they're MP3s, but sometimes it does make a difference, and I can always tell. --part1_3d.10d56886.28c6f6b1_boundary ---YTSEJAM FILTER: Rest of message skipped because of attachment ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Sep 2001 01:50:15 -0500 From: =?iso-8859-1?Q?Mauricio_Mart=EDnez To: Subject: Re: trade request 3/3/00 Message-ID: <001801c135d7$5dac53a0$message_id_removed.mx> Lighten up dude! you sound pissed! (no, you ARE pissed!) I say that i can't notice the difference between those 2, but i'm really curious to find out how those 2 sound via some decent speakers! However, i do believe some people (definetly more than the 0.01% here) CAN hear the difference. And once you hear it, and know why one is superior to the other, maybe you feel unconfortable hearing an MP3 that COULD be a WAV (or original source, that's better said). It turns into something psychological.....but that's my shitty theory! I don't quite know for sure! > Get your dicks out of your own mouths and realise that this crap is why > DT fans have a reputation of being trainspotting, wanking tits!@! ..mmhhhhh, what reputation are you talking about? i thought it was because of the music (y'know, those newbies to DT that say that EVERYTHING is crap but DT and that they have seen the light..and so on and so on.....hey! i've seen it more than once!) Hey Skadz, how many jammers are subscribed to this list actually? guess many dropped out because of the SpamJam, but it's pretty good now. Good work duder.
