I like his set up with DT. I like it when keyboarders use unique set-ups. I've seen players with keyboards that looked like they were on a giant spring so it would bend down to the right and left, and the new guy in Styx has his board on a 360 degree spinning platform..... > Changing topics, I received a mailing informing me that the new Royal Hunt > album was out. Had to turn the treble way down and crank the bass. I'm only on the second song, but it sounds pretty good. John West is back on Vocals........I'll send a better review when I drive somewhere....... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Aug 2001 16:11:43 EDT From: email_address_removed To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Mullmuzzler2 Message-ID: --part1_12d.3ef88bc.28c1497f_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" This is an AWESOME piece of music. Very much like Dream Theater musically. I feel it is much better that the first one. This is a must have for DT and James LaBrie Fans. --part1_12d.3ef88bc.28c1497f_boundary ---YTSEJAM FILTER: Rest of message skipped because of attachment ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Sep 2001 06:37:38 +1000 From: Graham Boyle To: TREVOR HOIT Subject: Re: DS/royal hunt Message-ID: TH> I have it. Way heavier than the previous keyboard dominated RH sound. Only let down, as Trvor says, by the lack of bass and way too much treble in the sound. Apart from that it' one of the year's best and great to RH doing something a little different. -- Best regards, Graham mailto:email_address_removed.au ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Aug 2001 15:44:28 -0700 From: Scott Hansen To: Subject: Re: Vai @ G3 (last post - I hope) Message-ID: Rob Denni states: > the responses. Think what you want - all I did was express what *I* saw and what my opinion of it was. I wasn't bad-mouthing him, slamming him, whatever. I will continue to see his shows when I can and continue to listen to his music - does that sound like someone who likes "Vai bashing"? ------------------------------ Frederik sez: > It looks as if this discussion has ended up in a personal argument between two > fans. While I'll agree that this thread has become uninteresting - especially since I've tried to re-state my whole viewpoint (unsuccessfully I might add), I wouldn't call this a personal argument. Trust me, me and Chris have gotten into heated debates before - this is nothing compared to that. And in all honesty, I'd like to think that this topic has come to an end - I've said my piece, Chris has said his and Rob Denni's got his opinion. ;o) 'Nuff said... Message-ID: <005501c132b1$19848540$message_id_removed.mx> NOO!!! I won't let this thread die now!!!! Keep the flames comin' guys!!! Nahh, i was kidding on this one (or being an asshole....take your pick). I just wanted to communicate here, that after some 2 or 3 years of not having more than 1 really worthy concert a year in my hometown (Monterrey, MX), this season is shaping up good in that sense. And better yet: with good guitar players! (scrap Wankwie..) Today, there was a Paul Gilbert Ibanez clinic. He had his hair short.....that was a shocking sight! He's very tall as well....and a very funny guy, with very diverse music tastes. He played everything...from shred, to blues, to a spice girls song (with the solo of Stairway to Heaven at mid tempo right in the middle!), to Hendrix, to Bach, to Puffy (a japanese Beatles-like band)...you name it! He also jammed with 6 local guitarists...and boy, they all did well, i wasn't expecting that!......but one started flashing a little too much, and Paul crushed him doing the same thing but much better and faster! He played a seven string on a solo song called "Let the computer decide", and was doing some mean arpeggios, aided by some weird tuning that allowed him to play that easier than it would have been with standard tuning. He also played "Mt. Fuji Christmas" and "Down to Mexico" (what a shocker....), and "Scarified". Well...as you may judge now...it was more of a concert than a clinic...but there was a couple of Q&A sessions. And, of course...an autograph session. Cool! It was a diverse audience...mostly non-guitarists....but there was a lot of guitarists and musicians....I think there were like 1500 people in the venue. Yngwie is coming as well...but for a concert. As you may have already heard, he's got Derek on the keys. That means that i'll have to dust off my FII tourbook, which he and JP didn't sign. Then, i was reading the newspaper (or just glancing at it...) and noticed a big G3 concert ad! YAY!!! I thought that i would have to go to Mexico city again (i saw DT there...), but this time they are coming! I got my tix already! ALMOST on the front...that'll do. I'll stalk him until he signs my FII tourbook...that photo is SOOO great. Shite..i'm so excited! Vai rocked on the first G3 (i have only seen the first G3 concert), and his band is amazing. I'll check them wankers out and decide who was wrong or right on this "showman...bal blah" thread. Yeah right...
