It needs a lot of training to play..and noone want to make mistakes in this band. So the only way to feel secure is doing the same each night. I understand that..also each day was in a different city. If you tell me they will play 3 nights in your town then you can expect more..but like this no. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? On the one hand, a "music" performer usually only says a few scattered things. It seems a little ridiculus for them to repeat the same two short "jokes" or phrases or gags every night. On the other hand, other live performers (comedians, plays, etc.) repeat themselves night after night. It's expected to be pretty much the same every time. I'm not sure why musicians are treated differently in this respect... my $.02, BH __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? It is based on definition 3a > above. More simply, it means "non-melodic" (i.e. no > traditional or easily accessible melody) I had this idea that angular playing was something like playing with very weird note groupings, or something along those lines. And once in a while, throw a couple of notes outside the center key. Like Chris said, Gilbert and Petrucci play mostly with some definite note groups: 16ths, sextuplets, etc...and make any pattern with any werid number. But people like Vai are much more expressive, i say, because of the way they play. Windows to the Soul, or Touching Tongues are VERY different than Erotomania or Hell's Kitchen. JP has some angular playing on some songs...like ToT...but he was in "Holdsworth mode", not being his usual self. There's gonna be a Gilbert clinic in a week here in my hometown. I might ask him about this, just to know his opinion....maybe he'll dodge my question and unacknowledge this "angularity" term! Mauricio About the definition 3a, above..."lacking smoothness or grace"?
