Message-ID: <002401bad7f8$e344ad20$30df6693@-----> Oh well...let's talk about DT's choreography shall we? I mean..we've all seen them on video or from up close and it seems to me that they don't know what to do with them legs while playing rhythm or even while soloing(why not?). Last show i saw Myung was trying something reminiscent of "pongo", 5 steps forward,4 back,7 forwards...he went with the rythmic patterns until he ran out of stage and stood still for the rest of the night. It was an effort in the right way. La Brie's got some nice moves but he sometimes loses his steps, needs practice while Petrucci is just helpless and surely needs the help of a pro IMHO. I'm not talking about Mr Portnoy, mainly because his feet are busy, still i think he could do some moon walking if he wanted to..and he might do so in the following tour. Not talking about Rudess either, because as we all know,he's not a real band member. I feel much better now i've shared these thoughts with you, they've kept me sleepless for nights and nights (days too). hmmm..ehmm...yeah! Bye ! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Aug 2001 19:09:28 -0300 From: "Tony/Alexis/Axel" To: "ytsejam" Subject: Devin Townsend Message-ID: <000901c126a0$1fa1ba00$0201a8c0@pavilion> Hey! There's a new Devin Townsend album out, called Terria. Anybody have it yet? If somebody has it, could you please post a review? I heard two songs on MP3.com, and they sound very good. Lots of layers of sounds, as always. Thanks! Sometimes he looks downright silly to me! Yeah..i know...he's no Diamond Dave. About the other guys choreographies, well, i have never really checked them out, because they are busy with their instruments, and their choreography is made up body movements and facial expressions that kind of describe what they are doing on their respective instrument. Sooooo, it sucks to be the singer! Some singers joke around with the mic or the mic stand (Steven Tyler..), but not James! I'm not saying he should though. Maybe he'll look worse if he actually did it! I pretty much liked the SFaM performance, but, i don't like the solos anymore. I like instrumental "improv" sections, like the one in the LiT video just after TLF, or Bombay Vindaloo...etc. But, somehow, i have developed something against JP's way of solo-improvising. I don't like it at all. I love his structured, well-thought-before playing. Jordan's solo...well....it's pretty weird. I had seen it myself live, so it was not new to me. The first bit i like it, but when he hits all those weird sequences.....i loose interest, and it becomes boooooring. SFaM grew old on me fast. I dislike some songs like BTL, and their LTE-like solo sections. However, their performance was great. Especially JP's, during the difficult solos, which he screwed up completely when i saw him 2 times live this SFaM tour. I didn't like all those "Metropolis 2000", "Dream Theater", etc etc etc, footage on the screens at all. I want to see close-ups of the guys playing, not some cheesy effects programmed by Jordan's Mac, or wherever they came from. That sucked ass for me pretty much. When i saw them live in Mexico City, they had these big screens, and most of the time, this crap was being projected. It was such a waste of resources. They should have had closeups of themselves.....and not these boring graphics. The SFaM photos and footage, was ok. Just that. No really good actors at all...hehehe, and we have granpa with his deep voice as the hypnotherapist. That was cool. He reminded me of Kramer when he acts. I guess i'm really bummed with this because Queensryche's O:M was much better for me in almost every aspect . Especially in live representation and the central plot of the album. Back to the DVD.....i dunno, but i thought the mix volume was way too low. I had to crank more than normal my amplifier to get a decent loud sound. I didn't like at all the gospel choir and Theresa Thomason's performance. But then, i don't like the way these people sing at all. (don't flame me, i'm not rascist or whatsoever..) There's just something that i don't like in the way most afro-american people sing. They get too excited, and start screaming......ha! Think of the way Christina Aquilera sings. She can NEVER keep her mouth shut, and that damn hand moving! I'm not just into it. For other O:M comparation: The girl who sings in Suite Sister Mary, totally rules! This is a useless comparation, of course, but that's one of the reasons i like O:M better than SFaM. JP's Music Man is great, and the acoustic sounds are very realistic. But he should have picked a damn acoustic guitar for the acoustic parts! On the brighter side.....The extras are absolutely great!!! The bonus hour of concert is just what i wanted on DVD. Their performances of LtL, and ACoS are really memorable. The changes made to both songs are cool...the reggae part.....simpsons theme.... I thought it was cool, but took some seriousness out of the songs. I didn't mind anyway. I know Mike ran out of space, and he has tons of more video material. I hope he can release it in a domestic-sold DVD or something! The photos are great. I haven't seen all of the so-called "Easter eggs", soooo, if someone would be so kind to tell me where the hell they are, privately, i would appreciate it a lot. I haven't seen the DVD with the band's commentary, so no opinion on that....yet! hehehe Ok this mail has gotten LONG. I hope SOME of you actually read it all and flame me for trashing DT on their very turf! Hey! It's my fave band, but i DO DISLIKE some things! I gotta get it out of my chest dudes&dudettes! I'm sure i have something more to rant about DT's music, etc....but this should be enough for now. Chew on it!
