Uh, Kansas is 70's prog. And honestly, calling bands like Shadow Gallery or Symphony X more prog than old Genesis...sorry I don't follow that. Transatlantic wasn't trying to sound old. I think you mistake that progmetal is progressive music. Not true. Spock's Beard, Echolyn, Iluvatar, and Flower Kings are all bands that hold up the traditional progressive flag. I suppose we didn't need the "what's prog?" debate again, huh? Sorry about bringing it back. Oh well. Just trying to understand. ---- Begin Original Message ---- "Moc Liam" >>I do NOT like Transatlantic Oh, sorry about that. I wasn't trying to compare them. I was trying to provide a sort of guide of what I like and do not like. My tastes lean in the SFaM/Symphony X direction and away from Transatlantic- type stuff because, IMO, Transatlantic didn't sound like it was trying to create NEW progressive music, but rather that it was celebrating the OLD stuff. I love progressive music (particularly the symphonic metal stuff), but I like it to be reaching for the future. So a lot of stuff that people say is great, I disagree with them because to me some of it sounds like it is stuck in the 70s. So that is why I said I liked AoI a lot and not Transatlantic. If Leonardo sounds like 70s prog, there is a good chance I won't like it ... although I do like the new Shadow Gallery; to me that doesn't sound "stuck" in any time period, although I hear Kansas and Styx elements. (I *do* like those bands) :) _______________________________________________ FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Talk More, Pay Less with Net2Phone Direct(R), up to 1500 minutes free! http://www.net2phone.com/cgi-bin/link.cgi?143 ---- End Original Message ---- Dream Theater : The Official Site - http://www.dreamtheater.net/ ____________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE Web and POP E-mail Service in 14 languages at http://www.zzn.com. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Aug 2001 07:24:02 -0700 From: Michael Kizer To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Re: Star Wars on DVD!
