I tend to agree with Graham...just don't see a need to bother famous people. Of course when they are actually at the show (before aand after), they gotta expect to get hit up for autographs and handshaking. Anyone remember the episode of Jerry Seinfeld where Kramer saw a baseball star (Joe Dimaggio?) in a Dunkin' Donuts? He kept slapping the table and yelling things trying get a reaction out of him. A friend of mine did a similar thing to ex-49ers Football Coach Bill Walsh. He was walking past our table on the street, and my Kramer-like friend yelled "hey!". Poor Bill almost jumped out of his shoes. I gave my friend shit about it, but I must admit it was kinda funny, in a "Candid Camera" kind of way...glad he didn't have a heart attack and keel-over... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? You must go see this band, as they are the Beatles/ Led Zeppelin of today. Highlights included - a version of Reflection that must have hit the 20 minute mark - the sound. Adam's guitar sound is probably one of the best in the world and he is all he needs to be as a player. - the animation playing constantly in the background, especially for the afore mentioned Reflection and some deeply disturbing images for their heavy as fuck Sober. - the band are tighter than they have ever been. If you hear them describe themselves as 'a machine not a band', you'll know that they are spot on when you see them. There are polyrythms and odd time signatures all over their music, a headbangers nightmare, and they are masters at take these and making them sound right. - Playing the Schism video whilst they were offstage was kind of cool, although odd because they had already played the song themselves. Complaints are few. Vocals and drums could have been a bit louder, I guess not being able to hear the vocals often might have been frustrating for people who didnt know the songs. Danny didnt hit his gong. Set could have been a bit longer. One more song or an encore would have gone down well. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2001 23:20:49 -0400 From: Cyberwolf To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: ProgPower & PowerMad Message-ID: So what percentage of people here are attending either/or Powermad and/or ProgPower festivals this year? Just curious as to the percentage of individuals from the varying discussion groups who are going to be subjecting themselves to large doses of progressive music this summer and fall. IF anyone gets a chance, feel free to check out my new CD, Virtuality (plug) sound samples. Drop me a line if you have any comments, suggestions, donations, or stock tips (kidding). Thanks. It was definately one of the coolest gigs I have ever seen! I totally agree with everything that you mentioned. Adam's guitar sound was so crips and clear it was amazing!! I actually thought Maynard's vocals and Danny's drums sounded great from where I was. My only complaint would be that I would have loved to have seen Hooker or Third Eye as an encore, even No Quarter would have been cool! Overall though, a set of 1 hour 50 minutes was pretty cool in my book! Toll are definately THE band at the moment IMO! I'll be heading to ProgPower in Atlanta, the first US one in Chicago was great, and this one looks like it is heading along the same lines. BTW, I just read that Pain of Salvation will NOT be playing at PowerMad, they are instead going to try and come back to the US the first week of September. ~Michael Kizer < email_address_removed > < ICQ # 2070538 > "Enter ivory gates through midnight skies..." ~ http://www.ivorygate.com >>> Fates Warning ~ Island In The Stream <<< >>> Dream Theater and Kevin Moore "Unofficial" Song Books <<< >>> Underground Internet Radio at: http://www.ytseradio.com <<< ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 11:21:01 -0400 From: "Kez" To: Subject: Re: ProgPower & PowerMad Message-ID: <001401c11454$402ec5a0$0300005a@kezp3800> I will be attending ProgPower 2.0 in Atlanta.
