A TRIPLE live cd and it's >awesome too! >I haven't heard anything from the new album yet, reviews have been positive >though. I don't have the live CD yet, but I've heard it's great. I recommend 'Purgatory, also. I got "Burnt Offerings", on recommendation from this list oh-so-long ago, and it was the best band recommendation I had here, besides Fates Warning (too bad they went weird recently...) There is also a solo-project CD by the singer. I don't know if any other of the band members are on it, but it's called "Demons and Wizards". A friend loaned me copy he burned to CD, thus I don't have the liner notes. I only listened to it once so far, but it sounds similar to IE, more like BO or TDS rather than SWTWC. A few places sound a little faster than stuff on The Dark Saga. I guess that means I'm heading to the CD store after this.... If you really want to know how good they are, pick up Century Media's "A Tribute to Judas Priest, Legends of Metal". Both IE and Mercyful Fate cover "The Ripper". MF version is decent, but IE's version is an order of magnitude better. Very tight, very precise. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 09 Jun 2001 14:27:50 -0700 From: Scott Hansen To: Subject: Re: S4D Message-ID: My fellow Hansen brother inquired: > Any old Queesryche fans out there heard the > Spys4Darwin recordings? A step up from Q2K, but that's about it. The singer doesn't do anything for me. The music itself can be described (to some degree) as AIC meets HITNF-era QR, tho I think it has an even stronger alternative-type sound than you might anticipate. Long story short, don't bother with this CD unless you are a die-hard QR/CDG fan or are really into HITNF. I am probably one of the few that really enjoyed the Making of FII CD. Actually, after reading on this a bit Mike has said that the Making of M2 is going to be sold by the band. Seems like he's doing a Marillion type thing (Racket Records is their outlet) and pulling together some private releases. I emailed him about this idea a year or so ago and he said that he had always wanted to do that (authorized boots and demos etc) but that the label was standing in the way. I thought that could be the case. Now with the comments I've read, I wonder if there's a new deal in the works allowing this kind of thing? Should be interesting. I think all of us would jump at buying CDs right from the band and hopefully they don't pull a Metallica and force a membership fee first. Paying twice for a CD is bullshit. Personally I would have much prefered that to the CD we just got, unless of course there wasn't enough material to put on a CD, or Mike was too busy with a DVD, Transatlantic CD and two kids. And said rhythm guitarist ,Jon Schaffer, IS iced earth.Once he found a steady vocalist he's been rotating the other members. A good point to start listening Blind Guardian is "Imaginations from the other Side" or their latest "Nightfall In Middle Earth".IFTOS has a more fierce and thrashy sound whereas NIME has more complicated orchestrations and folk elements. stay heavy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Jun 2001 02:30:43 -0400 From: "Joe DeAngelo" To: Subject: Iced Earth Message-ID: <000d01c0f176$e0aad1a0$message_id_removed> >I have "The Dark Saga," and I love it. I'm with you on that one. A cool thing about "Burnt Offerings" is the repetition of a theme throughout, tying it all together, despite it not actually being a concept album. "Alive In Athens" also rules, particularly the older material featured on it, although I'm not certain if the 3-CD version is still available. Don't recall it being mentioned here yet, but a track from "Horror Show", "Dracula", is available for download on Century Media's website (centurymedia.com). Go to the MP3 samples section, and it's right at the top. If it's a fair indication by which to judge the new one, I'm psyched. They don't have an MP3 sample available for them, but I'd have to recommend another "new" CM band, Andromeda, to most DT fans. Swedish progmetal featuring Darkane's ex-vocalist (clean vox only) and guitarist Johan Reinholdz. One of the better progmetal albums I've heard in awhile. HITNF, however, is easily their worst album ever. yeah, it's cool when bands try other avenues, but this wasn't an avenue that they even did well. i could count the times i've listened to it on 1 hand & not run out of fingers. think i'll just have to miss S4D. boo hoo...... -eric ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Jun 2001 20:57:33 +0200 From: "Mats Rydstrom" To: Subject: Sweden Rock & bear trax vid Message-ID: <007601c0f1df$38d1abc0$message_id_removed> Is it just me or is there a problem with the ftp server with the bear = trax thingy?! Standout performances: Symphony-X (incredibly powerful, the genre's best = singer/frontman by far, humble, professional, funny, spontaneous, fast = and intense), Rose Tattoo (!!!) and Bigelf. Nice surprises: Manny = Charlton (ex-Nazareth) and Talisman (w/ Marcel Jacob & Jeff Scott Soto) = reunion. WASP was in parts excellent, Dee Snider as well, and Glenn = Hughes did the old stuff excellently, however the new tunes are = forgettable.. Southern Rock Allstars (with Dave Hlubek, ex-Molly = Hatchet) played like they meant it, just like Southern Rawk should be = done Metalium?!
