Hi there folks
Just thought I'd ask if anyone else is going to the G3 in Chicago. I'm
driving there with a few people from Minnesota and I'm already getting
excited.

Yeah, I've posted messages to the 'Jam and since I'm in single-message mode
I usually see them show up in my mailbox right away. Here lately I've been
getting FAILURE notices from them. <>
The messages eventually show up but I sense errors in Torchsong-land.

In 1989 I was heavily into alot of the Mike Varney/Shrapnel releases
including the stuff by Becker/Friedman when they recorded the Cacophony
albums.
I must admit to being pretty ignorant as far as what happened to Jason
Becker apart from knowing that he was stricken down in 1990 with some nerve
disease that ended his ability to play guitar.
I've read a few things on the net about how he's still battling the disease
but how there is also a new cd coming out and a tribute cd also. I checked
out his website at www.jasonbecker.com and believe me, this guy is truly
amazing!
What a story of human spirit and courage! I'm not usually the type of person
who gets caught up in all of that type of stuff but I always thought Becker
was awesome and I'm more inspired than ever and thought I'd share it with
the Jam!
Anyway, my point is that if you haven't caught up with what's what with
Jason Becker, check out his page and do some learning, I sure as hell did!
Paul.

Well, Obsolete IS pretty similar through-and-through (and
that's from a HUGE Fear Factory fan - got all their
albums, seen 'em twice). Lars Ulrich says something about
a lot of metal fans not just LIKING the similarity, but
NEEDING it. Remember that sign on the DVD - "METAL our
RELIGION, DREAM THEATER our GODS"? Metal serves the same
function for a certain group of people that religion does
for others: it offers them something stable and certain
in a world that is constantly changing in ways that scare
them.
>Erotomania is a wanky instrumental;
Well, yes and no. I hate the main riff; but the mid-
section is so fantastic that it more than makes up for it.
There's very little POINTLESS shred in it, which is what
so many people object to - in fact, depending upon one's
definition, there is NO shred in Erotomania - some very
fast playing, yes, but no directionless widdling. Well,
maybe a bit of legato, but other than that...
>ACoS has wanky instrumental parts
I don't agree with this; despite being a twenty minute
song, ACoS is remarkably lean for a Dream Theater song on
the record, although there is some pointless shred on the
DVD version, granted (in TDoW).
>The silent man is a more chill, clean guitar-driven
>song; again, ACoS has parts similar to that.
I remember someone on here ages ago saying that TSM would
fit very nicely if DT played with YES; for that matter,
it'd probably fit into YES' actual SET!! So that one I
half-expected her to enjoy 'cos she likes YES, and him to
enjoy 'cos it's a really cool little Crowded House-esque
number.
On the one hand, I probably should stop trying to convert
people to DT fans, but on ther other hand, I - and I
think most people fanatical enough about it to be on
the 'Jam - derive such pleasure from listening to this
incredible music that I want other people who I know to
share that. And there's nout wrong with that! :)

I've been getting those too. I sent the message that started this "thread"
two or three days ago, and just now got it with 21 other messages.
Yesterday I found a Failure notice in my Inbox. So it must be something
internal, or I would at least get my OWN messages when I send them.

yeah, it's happened to me also. i just assumed that something was quirky
with the server due to the SPAM filters that are supposedly getting put in
place. i must say, though i've still received a couple `o spams here and
there, it deffinetly isn't the several dozen a day like it used to be.
good job skadz, if indeed this was your doing. big improvement.
anyhow, back to the ACK thing. i don't know what the deal is with the
delayed messages. skadz, maybe a word or two on this as well???

that's happened here as well. i also am sensing a disturbance in the
force, er, torchsongs' server. don't know. also, i had just recently
posted a nice `ole pat-on-the-back to skadz for what seemed to be a
decrease in the spam content. after posting that message, i then
proceeded to read "how to increase my money", "britney spears
