I just checked on Amazon, and most of them are on there. Hollow Years, Through Her Eyes, and Silent Man. However, TLF - at least the studio version - is only available on the Lie single, which is pretty rare. I happened to land a copy, totally unaware of it's scarcity, several years ago in a used cd store. i've never seen it since and I've heard it sells for $50. glad I nabbed it! :) TLF is also ALL OVER the audition tape, which is a great listen. Yes it's a bootleg, but it's certainly not stuff you're gonna be buying, so don't fret that. I'm not sure but I don't think Speak To Me is on any official release. Not sure though. Definitely get the Hollow Years one though, it's got TWIUTB and the original You OR Me. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 16:42:42 +0930 From: Paul Ninnis To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Eternity X Message-ID: <61BA286C6C56D11187B50000E83A13CB31740A@EDDIE> > From: Chris Oates > > >NP: Eternity X - The Edge (more emotion than you can poke a stick at) > > Is that the same band who did "Zodiac"? -- I couldn't even get through that > album once due to the cheeze factor. Is this one better? I'm not too sure, coz this is the only album I've got by them, and I must say I think its an amazing album. I bought it after seeing it on heaps of peoples Top10 ProgMetal lists, along with alot of my own favourite albums, so suspected they knew something I didn't. I don't necessarily agree that Jordan is limited to the happy stuff. I mean, sure, the majority of his stuff sounds like goddamn Super Mario Brothers or something. Let's not forget, though, that Jordan wrote the intro to "When the Water Breaks" - the music box/piano intro is certainly somber and dark. and the main riff is equally dark, and heavy heavy heavy. But as long as he keeps writing music like WtWB and Finally Free, I'll take all the plinkety-plink suff he can dish out. > >Anyway, according to DT on the commentary, Finally Free was mainly a Jordan > >piece, and I find parts of that to be particularly dark and somber. > > The lyrics are certainly dark, but the music isn't too dark. Heck, the > chorus with slightly different words could be a love song... You think? I think the chord progression to the chorus of Finally Free is some of the most simultaneously beautiful and depressing music I've ever heard. I mean right up there with Barber's Adagio. When everything stops and it's just James and John singing and playing acoustic, I just wanna slash my wrists. In a good way. :) And the first time the chorus comes in , it IS a love song. ;) > I'd love to clog up some Asian Girls with my member. The local Sam Goody only got one, so my inside guy called me at told me to come in and reserve it. They open at midnight on Tuesday so that folks can come in and get new releases. Someone came in at midnight to buy it. He couldn't since I have it reserved. The kicker, I don't have a DVD player right now either, it's broke. I kinda feel bad. That other guy could have bought it and actually gotten some enjoyment out of it already. I didn't buy the VHS version because my VCR isn't hooked up. Ever since I got a Tivo my VCR has hidden itself due to embarrassment. tk Todd O. Klindt, MCSE email_address_removed "Remember, the government doesn't create one dollar. For me it's a toss-up between "Signify" and "Stupid Dream." However, their live album "Coma Divine" provides a nice snapshot of their best music spanning the first album up through "Signify." Depends what you're after. If it's the only P'Tree disc you ever buy, and live albums don't bother you, get Coma Divine. It's a live album with material from several of their earlier/better discs. If you want their best "somewhat psych, somewhat pop/song-oriented" material, get Signify. If you want their best "mostly psych, not really song-oriented" material, get The Sky Moves Sideways. (IMHO, This is their best album.) If you plan to get more P'Tree eventually, and just want a starting point, get TSMS first, Signify second, and work forwards & backwards thru time until you hit something you don't like. --Jay "Confusing the issue further" Omega --NP: godspeed you black emperor! - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 15:17:57 -0700 From: David Dixon To: "'ytsejam@torchsong.com'" Subject: RE: porcupine tree Message-ID: > if one were to get just one Porcupine Tree album, which > one would it be? My two favourite albums from PT are 'Signify' and 'The Sky Moves Sideways'. The songs on Signify are shorter and more accessible. TSMS has very long psychadelic songs on it, a bit like Pink Floyd. I prefer TSMS, but for a Dream Theater fan, Signify is probably the best album to start with.
