It was almost as enjoyable as watching the performance itself. JP rarely shuts up, while JM talks maybe three times. :) I know many movies on DVD have the audio commentary under the movies (the hilarious Spinal Tap commentary where everyone is still in character and the very informative commentary featuring Terry Funk on the "Beyond the Mat" DVD come to mind), does anyone know of any music/performance DVDs where they have included audio commentary? I don't own any (I have seven music DVDs) and haven't heard of any. So, for anyone who's complaining about the lack of 5.1 or the spelling of Innocent on the gravestone, Dream Theater went way above the call of duty by providing us with the commentary. On the other topic of this post, myself and Ytsejim went to the Savatage/Fates Warning shows in Brooklyn and Port Jefferson last week. MP was at the Brooklyn show and was hanging out right next to us near the soundboard. He watched the Fates performance and then left. At the Port Jefferson show, wrestler Mikey Whipwreck was there and seemed to be really enjoying the show, especially Savatage. But the guy was complaining about his back all night (apparently Jerry Lawler threw him down the bleachers at an indy event the week before). It seems that celebs follow myself and Jim to these shows. At the previous time we were at Lamours, for the Symphony X show, Savatage guitarist Chris Caffrey watched most of the show next to us in practically the same spot MP watched Fates. Well, I don't think they need to increase the top end of their heaviness scale, but I would prefer if they increased the intensity on the other end. I find "Through Her Eyes" and "The Spirit Carries On" to be the two most skippable songs in the entire DT catalog. There's still enough good stuff on SFaM to make me prefer it to Awake, but I&W is still the #1 for me. I also think Jordan needs to find a happier middle ground for his style within DT. He's either playing almost nothing or he's noodling off. My band is covering "Home" and if you take out the annoying sitar noodle bits and the solo (I'm not good enough to play the solo yet) the keyboard parts are pretty minimal. Heck, the keys on "Eyes of a Stranger" (another song we're learning) are more interesting to me. I'm not going to go into comparing keyboardists, but I will say I preferred Jordan's playing on LTE to his playing on SFaM. ~Chris ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Apr 2001 14:05:29 -0400 (EDT) From: Robert Muise To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: i ask one thing of you, skadz...
