Here's my tried-and-tested solution for paying off your debts: 1. Go to the pub on a Friday night and get quite drunk. 2. Walk home from the pub. 3. Get attacked by a couple of nasty teenagers - suffer a bruised nose and broken front tooth. 4. Report the assault to the police. 5. Go to the hospital to find out if your nose is broken. 6. Get your dentist to fix your broken tooth, and keep the receipt. 7. File an application for compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority. 8. Have your application rejected, due to your being "uncooperative" with the police enquiry. 9. Appeal again the rejection, pointing out that you did in fact fully cooperate with the police at all times. 10. Receive a cheque for £1200. 11. Pay off your credit card. :-) -- Graham Borland Picsel Technologies Ltd email_address_removed Glasgow, Scotland ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 13:48:24 -0400 From: Robb Muise To: ytsejam@torchsong.com, Multiple recipients of list Subject: RE: burn in hell ya stinky pirate Message-ID: noooooooooooooo I didn't mean a portable MP3 player, those are a waste. i meant a portable cd PLAYER that reads mp3. I have my work e-mail (prometheus.com), and my school e-mail (gwu.edu) both forward to one mailbox: email_address_removed. Also, when I have to give my e-mail address to companies, I do so using aliases at this domain (email_address_removed, email_address_removed, etc.) so that I can filter their messages out if needed. Often I try to send a message to a list, and find that it's not allowed because that's not the address I subscribed using the list. I have one mailing list that I can't get off because neither the owner nor I can figure out what e-mail address I used to subscribe!! Nonetheless, I'm completely willing to put up with those inconveniences because I understand the rationale behind it. So you could carry around an entire bands collection on one disc. Take DT. I have every CD ripped to MP3s + the 99 fan club disc. This is 71 songs, with room for about 30 more songs. So instead of carrying around 9 CDs you have 1. I prefer, I haven't seen the models yet, but they were working on them, car stereos that allow you to hook up a hard drive for unlimited storage(via USB I think, and no CDs to carry around. I you like the band even a little, I recommend this DVD. It's awesome. It really captures the live performance! I've been to two of their shows and this DVD shows what it's like. Tarja rocks! I heard rumors about their live shows before I experienced my first one at Ruisrock festival in Turku (Finland) last summer. Still it was amazing how much they went over my expectations. The second show was at rock club Tavastia in Helsinki (Finland), just a little after they shot this DVD. It was equally great. So if you like Nightwish even a bit, make sure you get this DVD. My experience with spam filters has been that they work some of the time, but not all of the time. I feel that if the filters don't restrict 90% or more of the spam (maybe 1 or 2 spams per week) then we should go to restricting the list to subscribers. I prefer the principle of allowing anonymous postings so that band members and others can post without revealing their email addresses, but at this point the spam problem is starting to override that principle in my mind. Anyone who posts to the list from multiple accounts (or anonymous accounts) and isn't subscribed from them all, please speak up now. I somehow doubt that there are all that many. If there are only a couple then it may be reasonable to remove spam at their expense. Let's give the spam filters a few weeks to see how they work and then reconsider our options.
