Amazon sends me $10 coupons in the mail all the time. I'd say they probably do it once per month, even. :) CDNow never does shit like that for me. Wonder why Amazon gets all my business? :) If you want CDNow things, it used to be you could go to someplace called http://www.deardeer.com/ or something and they had a whole page dedicated to current CDNow coupons. Go to Yahoo and do a search for CDNow Coupons and I'm sure you'll find something. -- KorgX3 feels something doing backstrokes in his stomach. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2001 07:49:10 -0700 (PDT) From: "Nicole R. Guess that's what happens after you graduate and get sucked into the pit that is "real work" for about 3 years. :P Btw, I'm getting a real kick out of the "old timers" threads that keep popping up. I've been a 'jammer since around #1800, and I even remember signing the ACoS petition. (Although I didn't know what I was signing at the time... damn boyfriends. ;) Anyway, in case you haven't heard from dt.net, mp.com, jr.com, or jm.com, I figured I'd post the following here as well. If you know of any Texans not on this list who might want to come, please pass it on to them too. :) One more thing... I've got some help with the DTIFC (finally!) Mike Brown has agreed to answer all DTIFC emails from now on. I just can't keep up with it, and he seems to have endless time on his hands. But please and don't ask him about the Christmas CD. It'll be here soon enough. :) -Nicole/Kirby -------------- It's official! Set your calendars for Tuesday, April 24 for a night of Dream Theater indulgence! (And a little cake, too!) We'll hold the Houston, Texas Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory DVD release party at Diamondhead Records. The fun will begin at 7:00 PM and will include cake, prizes, and a screening of the DVD. Diamondhead Records is located on the north side of Houston, TX at 5020 Louetta Rd # 110 just west of Kuykendahl Rd. From downtown Houston, take I-45 north, exit Louetta. (Watch the construction signs! It's a mess up there!) Go West on Louetta for approx. 7-9 miles. Diamondhead will be on your right just past Kuykendahl. Please RSVP to Nicole at email_address_removed if you want a copy of the DVD from Diamondhead that night. We want to get a rough estimate on how many we'll need so we don't over- or under-order. Message-ID: OK, the subject's a bit misleading, but I did hear Dream Theater mentioned on the radio last Friday in Pittsburgh on 105.9. They were playing the "pick of the litter" which features a song from a little known band and listeners call in to say what they thought of the song. This time they played "Headless" by a band named "Dog Fasion Disco". The song caught my attention enough so that I wrote down the name so I could look it up online later. I also stayed on the station to see what kind of comments people made afterward. The first comment was something like "I didn't get those keyboard parts, man". But, the next few people liked it. Someone mentioned that they thought the singer sounded like Maynard from Tool (which I agree with to an extent). Then, to my surprise, someone said "They were cool, I thought they sounded like Dream Theater". I stared at my radio for a second and the DJ made a surprised sounding "Oh! Dream Theater!". I wasn't sure if the DJ was surprised that anyone would dare mention DT on the radio or just clueless as to who they are. So, fess up. What fellow Pittsburgh Ytsejammer out there plugged DT on the radio? Way to go! :-) BTW, I didn't think the song was that reminiscent of Dream Theater, but it was closer than most music out there. I downloaded it off of MP3.com and I like it quite a bit. Unfortunately, their other songs have a lot more screaming singing that I don't enjoy that well, and their lyrics are sometimes pretty silly. I think I will still buy the CD for that song and to see if the rest grows on me. The URL for them at MP3.com is: http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/1189/1189108.html Steve ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2001 03:18:22 -0400 (EDT) From: email_address_removed (Steve Chew) To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Sunny Day Real Estate Message-ID: My friend recently lent me a CD called "The Rising Tide" by a band named "Sunny Day Real Estate". My friend said it was something like Queensryche meets Rush in Jon Anderson's living room. I like it, but I'd say it's more like Radiohead meets Fates Warning in Matthew Parmenter (from Discipline) and Kula Shaker's living room. :-) In any case, it's good stuff. The music has a pretty cool atmosphere (kind of like Radiohead's Kid A or Floyd but with heavier guitar, hence the Fates comparison). There aren't a lot of obvious melodic leads but the overall music and vocals keeps my attention anyway. I enjoy the vocals which are somewhat strange but compelling with cool harmonies to make things interesting. I'd recommend checking them out.
