"When he opened his mouth to sing, we were all blow= n away." Former vocalist Zak Stevens left Savatage due to family commitment= s just prior to the recording of Poets & Madmen. Jack Frost will take on the duties of second guitarist, replacing Al Pitrelli, who now plays in Megadeth. Frost=92s resume includes Seven Witc= hes, Bronx Casket Co., Speeed, and Metalium. "We=92ve been friends with Jack F= rost for years and always felt that we had great chemistry," said founding mem= ber Jon Oliva. It isn't a complete live show, but a collection of live songs that he wrote and performed for some of the different countries he visited on the Ultra Zone tour. There is a note from Steve on his website, and he talks a little about some of the songs on the upcoming cd. For those of you who are too lazy to navigate through vai.com, here's where that note is. ;-) http://www.vai.com/news/updates.html Sarah email_address_removed ICQ: 77502715 AIM: reklessfabl _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Mar 2001 00:51:02 +0200 From: "xxx" To: Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 5791 Message-ID: <001101c0a8eb$6df493e0$d6aa5c8b@xxx> > I told before that the possible live cd will be from Istanbul - Turkey 2000 > which was the last show of the tour.,He mentioned that it was being recorded > and will be released later.. > that night there were also many cameras around there :))))) > but Im not sure if they were the press or the recording crew Dude, Vai told this on every show of the tour, here in Bulgaria also. And the whole thing was filmed here too. And i have a soundboard bootleg from Holland and there he tells the audience the same. So I assume the live album will be bits from several shows, not from one specific event. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2001 17:40:16 -0800 (PST) From: "Alexandra O'Connell" To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: the 'Tage and VP Message-ID: >I havnt really checked out Savatage yet and would >like to know a decent album to start with (cos >someone told me they have a few) - any clues?? I would start out with Dead Winter Dead. (And not just 'cause it was my first, hehe) This is a fantastic album and gives a good indication of where Savatage are now, musically - of course I haven't heard the new one, Poets & Madmen, which has been called a "change." Then work your way backwards and forwards. I really enjoyed Handful of Rain, but that is a transition album really, from the more crunchy with an edge early days to the melodic focus and harmonies and more polished sound found on later CDs. Info and discography to be found at www.savatage.net. Wake of Magellan is great too, but as far as I'm concerned nothing beats Dead Winter Dead *as an album*. Okay, so Streets is fantastic as well - if you want a great example of the more old-school sound (there's been much change of personnel) check that out also. >PPS I recently purchased a live Vanden Plas album and >I thought it rocked but they are soooooooo like DT - >is it them in disguise? Even the vocals? Hrm, how could you say the *vocals* are so much the same? As far as I'm concerned, Andy Kuntz sounds nothing like LaBrie at all; the most you can say is that they both sing "progmetal vocallines." Totally different qualities of voice. I just listened to Far Off Grace again the other day and was struck by the soft quality of Kuntz's voice.. amazing. Alex __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
