Message-ID: Rob Denni writes (re: Zappa's Joe's Garage album): "my first Zappa album and I was 9 or so when I heard it." Did your dad have this lying around or something? Hearing lyrics like "keep it greasy so it'll go down easy", "home of the tits", "she's learning to blow all of the catholic boys" at that age would've driven my parents insane. Did you get the all the sexual innuendo (not really innuendo, I suppose, Zappa is pretty blatant) at that age? Did you like it? :) Damn, that's cool. I wish I'd heard of Zappa when I was nine. I think that you shouldnt go far wrong with - You Are What You Is (my fave - hilarious) Apostrophe Zoot Allures (more rock based) Joes Garage (outstanding musicianship - mind you they all are) Sheik Yerbouti (hilarious) etc... there's loads of em (maybe the rykodisk web page (dunno address sorry) will help). Just for the funny ones try 'Have I Offended Someone?' If you purchase one of the rykodisk re-issues (in a green tinted jewel box) there should be a leaflet in there describing the other Zappa titles available. Hope this helps Nathan PS Nice article Dennis (some cool mockery) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 13:10:00 +0000 From: Nathan Hudson To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: RE: YTSEJAM digest 5789 Message-ID: I havnt really checked out Savatage yet and would like to know a decent album to start with (cos someone told me they have a few) - any clues?? cheers Nathan PS additional to the Zappa thing - avoid Weasels Ripped My Flesh cos other than the track 'The Orange County Lumber Truck' it's unlistenable IMO - I took tthe thing back to the store (using the old 'unwanted gift' excuse and changed it for Apostrophe - much to my delight). PPS I recently purchased a live Vanden Plas album and I thought it rocked but they are soooooooo like DT - is it them in disguise? Even the vocals? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 09:15:41 -0500 From: "Kez" To: Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 5789 Message-ID: <002601c0a7da$45e7c460$0300005a@kezp3800> ----- Original Message ----- ]From: "Nathan Hudson" To: "Multiple recipients of list" Sent: Thursday, March 08, 2001 8:41 AM Subject: RE: YTSEJAM digest 5789 > > PPS I recently purchased a live Vanden Plas album and I thought it rocked > but they are soooooooo like DT - is it them in disguise? But I've been a Vanden Plas fan for some time, so I'm more familiar with the songs on the live cd. Maybe that's it.
