Libraries ALSO only allow their books to be BORROWED, which means you have to return them or else buy the book. The main issue is about being able to create a suitable duplicate. Still a pain in the rear to photocopy the whole book (but if you want to read online, it's a whole 'nother story, and yes, they'll whine). Not to go too far into nerd territory, but just imagine if they could create a "Star Trek" style replicator? You'd hear whining from everyone! "Computer, replicate me a 56" screen SONY HDTV." On the extra large ACME Replicator: "Computer, create me a 2001 Corvette Convertable." And of course, just to take this to it's logical and inevitable conclusion: "Computer, replicate Pamela Anderson, minus the tats". my $.07, BH ----- "Wot's wrong with being sexy?" - Nigel Tufnel __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? What's up with that? We need a collective >clue... Maybe I can help. One thing is that they don't have a label. They record = all their stuff themselves without any backup from a record company. = When they have an album ready, they find someone who can handle the = distribution. So they don't have a company to push their music.. No one = gives them money to make videos. So they pretty much rely on their fans = spreading their music.=20 I'm very happy to see that they are finally getting some attention. They = really are good, especially singer/guitar player Mattias Eklundh, who = incidentally lives not at all far from me. I don't exactly know him, but = I have met him a few times (my friend used to take guitar lessons from = him). Very nice guy. I've tried to get the jam to notice them before, = but that was years ago...way before Napster. Btw, I'm pretty sure that = Freak Kitchen is a band who really supports Napster (of course, I can't = speak for them, but it's a qualified guess anyway).=20 Oh, and someone mentioned www.skivhugget.se ...excellent store. = Dangerously close though - only 5 minutes away by foot :) Nik ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Feb 2001 13:47:56 -0800 From: Chris Oates To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: Kitchen Freaks Message-ID: At 08:29 AM 2/13/2001, you wrote: >Yep - go to http://www.freakkitchen.com - they have a 45-second-or-so sample >of every song on each album... Cool. *listens* Good music. Reminds me of the early Galactic Cowboys stuff. Too bad about the lyrics. Is it just me or is anybody else tired of the complete lack of subtlety in "social commentary" lyrics? I've had enough of "World BAD! Angst GOOD!" to last me a lifetime. Still, I learned to tolerate Damn the Machine's lyrics, I could get used to this. ~Chris ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Feb 2001 17:58:14 -0500 From: Joshua Rasiel To: ytsejam@torchsong.com Subject: napstermart Message-ID: >So napster is soon to be no more. I'd just like to know why musicians think >they are somehow better than authors. I don't hear any writers whining >about their books being put into libraries. To what's already been said, I would just add that napster isn't so much akin to a library as it is a 24-hour barnes&noble with a never-ending shopping spree. Also: Not only do libraries not let you keep the books(well, i keep mine. fuck 'em!), they never have the book on the shelves before it's released for sale to the public. And rarely do they have alternate first-drafts that the author never intended for us to read. And they generally have just one copy of anything, so only one person can borrow it at a time, which means if the other 99% of the population want that book asap, they'll just have to pay for it. All reasons why libraries suck and napster rocks. :-D ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Feb 2001 19:18:37 -0500 From: "Metzger, Mark" To: "Ytsejam (E-mail)" Subject: Re: [Korgx3] korg and napster and the two-faced asshole Message-ID: >> Oh and by the way, it seems Napster Inc. lost the other day, >> didn't it? ISTR some case a while back where some entity acquired rights for news stories (I think it even was for some internal library use) and then subsequently tried to sell access to that database over the internet. This is the biggest misconception, Napster doesn't "distribute" anything. Napster is like a dating service. They put you in contact with someone else and then hand you off to them. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2001 09:12:37 -0500 From: email_address_removed To: Subject: Short on cash?
