They could have ended it at 5:25... and again at 6:20...but no! It rises again and again, like a punch-drunk stallone in rocky 4, to kick my communist steroid-filled ass. I felt that Tainted was epic, yes, but not really...uh, good. :) It was absolutely proggier. I think we all agree the first album was much proggier. But that alone don't make it good. Actually, I think this reflects my own personal trend - I tend to lean towards stuff where prog is there but not emphasized so much. That's probably why kevmo was my favorite DT keyboardist. He provided a sort of "industrial harmony" that nobody has replaced. If removed from metal, it's basically his solo stuff, which I love. But when folded into metal, it creates a wicked perfect blend - for DT, most apparent in Awake. And while our guys have gone on to greater things(M2 is still my favorite), there's been an empty spot in my head, just waiting for that sound...which younique has. Younique really is very analagous to Awake. And really, Behind goes right with I&W. I definately second the recommendation but would also like to give some additional info: Freak Kitchen have 4 albums so far: - Appetizer (1994) very heavy, less refined than their other efforts. - Spanking Hour (1996) my personal favorite (probably because I had this one first), heavy yet melodic and progressiv. Some very catchy lyrics and tunes ("I bang my heaeaeaead against the walls of stupidity" *jump around the room*) - Freak Kitchen (1998) sometimes also referred to as "Bull", described as a heavy-pop-rock-latin-world-jazz-avant-garde-metal-blues-record straight from hell, their furthest move into Frank Zappa territory. Should probably not be your first selection to get into FK. - Dead Soul Men (2000) see Jan's original message. I keep plugin' this album to everybody I know. And I nearly gave a copy of Dead Soul Men as a Xmas pressent to all my friends if it wouldn't be so hard to buy them... I had to order through a Swedish online shop which was quite an experience with me not being able to understand a single word of Swedish... http://www.skivhugget.se/ <= the guys delivered _very_ fast and friendly (two confirmation e-mails) to the US and since we don't have to pay Swedish tax the CDs turned out to be cheaper than your average Dream Theater release at a local store.
