I think the song you're thinking of is "Pardon Me" on their Make Yourself album. If you like that, you should pick up their new EP called "Attack of the Incubus Part 1." It's only 8 bucks, so you don't have an excuse not to get it :-) It's got a couple versions of that song, plus some other great acoustic and live tracks. I've an idea lets make a list : I'll start with 1 or 2 : U2 (the old stuff) Tori Amos Sting Aerosmith ;) OK OK so I didn't take that much risk ... mabee next time ! See ye FrancoIrishCycoDreamer PS : When I was young I had a hardcore group on a tape that was awesome (crazy multiple piano hardcore classical punky stuff). That tape broke I think the name was something like "rip brick and panic" but I'm totaly unsure. Any ideas for the real name ? Any ideas where I could find some stuff ? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Dec 2000 08:31:39 -0500 (EST) From: Matt Smith To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Savatage Message-ID: Joe DeAngelo wrote: This is kinda what I'm afraid of....... :( I'm a HUGE fan of the last 4 Sava CDs....... but as for stuff like Hall of the Mountain King...... IMO , anyone who says hes better and conveys more emotion than Zak is obviously blinded by being a fan of them before Zak or something.. Jon's singing is so gritty its good for being the "bad guy" like hes done in the last couple of discs...but his voice makes me cringe when he tries to sing quiet songs like the ones on streets and the unplugged songs found on the special edition Wake of magellan disc.. He may have been good in his time..but god ,IMO he is nowhere near zak stevens... Savatage, in losing Zak, and not doing counterpoint style vocals (and staying away from the concept album, which i dont mind that much) is effectively shedding the very thing that made them enjoyable to me. .so im really not holding my breathfor the next release. For me, Savatage as a regular metal band (older albums) is so-so..not too interesting... now the recent concept album years... THAT is something else.. just my opinion... Carlos A. The first Savatage album I bought was "Dead Winter Dead". I thought it was great. Then I bought "Hall of the Mountain King", and I thought it was even better. I was not "blinded by being a fan of them before Zak" because I almost couldn't have been one in the olden days -- I was only 9 when HotMK came out. Some of us younguns (who've worked our way backwards through the Savacatalog) actually *enjoy* the sound of Oliva's voice, believe it or not, and appreciate the older music as much as, or, in my case, even more, than the new stuff. I don't mean this to sound like a rip on anybody, incidentally, just understand that all the fans out there don't necessarily share your point-of-view. >I asked if they would be continuing with >the counterpoint vocals on the new one, and he said they pop up on a >couple of songs, but, in his words, "it's pretty much back to the Mountain >King days." I don't think I've listened to > that CD but 3 or 4 times in the couple years I've had it. I'm with you 100%. I was crushed whn Al Pitrelli (one of the most emotive guitarists out there, IMO) left to joined that hack band Megadeth for the big money and fabulous prizes. Then when Zak left, I was crushed again - he's one of the best singers around. The only pre-Zak CD's I have are Hall of the Mountain King and Streets, and none of them really do anything for me. I mean, Criss is great (though I prefer Al), and the story is good on Streets, but that's about it. Now, Edge of Thorns is awesome, as is DWD and TWoM. I don't have Poets and Madmen. is it good? In other news, I ordered my JP/JR CDs on, like, the 21st of December. They're here already! The website said four weeks, not four days! Cool. I guess that's it. This band deserves to be checked out! I am usually just an old school prog guy but this band has great songs. "Make Yourself" is just an awesome disc. Brandon Boyd has a great voice and to me, sounds alot like Mike Patton which is ALWAYS a good thing. Brandon Boyd, their vocalist, is among the >best out there today. Yeah, they're pretty good! they have a few songs in rotation and I like them all. Which is interesting: it proves that I don't dismiss bands just cuz they're radio friendly. I pretty much leave the dial on K-ROCK and yes, most of what I hear appears to be crap, and I tend not to give the benefit of trying to penetrate that, just in case there's something there. I don't have the energy. But even so, if it's a decent band or song, then I won't have to - they'll eventually get through my little filter. Incubus is one such band. Godsmack isn't bad either. hate papa roach, hate perfect circle(and yes I love tool!). I don't know if they play it everywhere, but one of the reasons i like incubus is the cool acoustic version they have of that "combustion" song. it's impressive. -josh ---- End Original Message ---- Dream Theater newsletter - http://www.dreamtheater.net/uacmmail/ ____________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE Web and POP E-mail Service in 14 languages at http://www.zzn.com. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Dec 2000 00:58:21 +0100 From: CyberDuke To: Ytsejam Subject: Copyrights Message-ID: The legend called DOUGLAS ADAMS says: I don't think the issues are cut and dried at all, and I think that we will see new models emerge.
